I seek advice from experts out there.

I have an Acer Travelmate notebook. For 5 years all was well, but recently I reinstalled Windows XP using the Acer discs. All proceded well, with one exception.

Frequently I now get the following message appearing after a few minutes of use :

"The advanced features of your Touchpad have been disabled because the Synaptics Touchpad driver has detected another pointing device plugged into your computer." Then for a few moments the pointer freezes before continuing apparently as normal.

I have no external mouse or other pointing device, and never have had.

I cannot find another driver in the software.

Can anyone help to cure this small annoyance please?

DocTom.
