Downloading Windows 7

I have been downloading Windows 7 for most of today. It did fine until it got to 99 percent. It has been on 99 percent for a couple of hours now. I can click pause and it says pause. I click resume and it says downloading. The file downloaded so far says DLM file and it is 2,471,656 KB.

What happened?

I have a CCU 680 Evdo modem, so no router. I tried the download again overnight using FF and have the same result this morning. (99%) The first download attempt was with IE 8. The same download manager came up with both FF and IE. My add on download manager doesn't seem to work. It normally takes over any download.

- Have you tried safe mode w/ networking, to see if the same behavior occurs there?

- I could be download folder permision problem.

- Check if your download folder was write protected.

- It could be any number of things - antivirus scanning the file, a slow copy from the temporary location to the specified download location, and so on.

- Try clearing your internet cache and temp folders.

- It might be casued by any security software. I knoe it is not a goog advise but sometimes I suspect a viris scanner cause this issue.

- Can you diable AV for that dowbload?

- Use a different download folder and name.

You should using a download helper like FlashGet. I am using IDM with its updated IE/FF add-on.

In case you use IDM and the manager does not start automatically - reinstall the updated add-on and enable advanced browser integration.

There are known reports that IE 8 may cause this issue. Useres who reverted back to IE7 could download without prolems.

Further the missing 1% is actually that 1% what is need to validate and verifiy the file of its legitimacy.

I have reports it took up to 1 hour until finally 100% was reached!

Personally I guess for some reason your computer is not able to copy from a temp location to the download

location. This happens during that 1% as well.

I would try a download from a different server or source as well - even a miror might do it.

As I said it could be all or nothing....

I may try it again tonight using my laptop. I'm quite disappointed right now and am having thoughts that if just the download is this much of a problem, the operating system may be the same. And yes, I am using the latest version of IDM with enabled advanced browser integration.

What's the point to download BETA now if on 13th July MS will sign-off RTM version and after couple of days full version will be available online.

Isn't beta available until 2010 but you'd have to pay for the non beta version ?

It appears that the download mystery is solved. The CAT EVDO CCU 680 modem downloads 99 percent and simply stops. This is with the 3rd party download manager or with the MS download manager. It absolutely refused to finish the download. Four times I tried. Yesterday I plugged in my AIS EDGE phone and was able to resume the download. WHY? I have no idea other than TIT. To make a long story short, I now have Windows 7 RC installed on my spare hard drive.

Good to know you finally succeeded. My guess the problem was caused by the modems firmware. Maybe an upgrade is needed.

The commercial version is due to be released on October 22nd. The RC can be used until March next year without payment or nag - and until June with 2 hour shutdowns. I just bought a computer so put the RC on it and after 7 is released will attempt to buy it. I was not able to buy at web site using either of two US debit cards so not able to take advantage of pre-sale price. Feedback was card/address invalid but all test charges were approved by my bank so expect they are checking IP and not allowing overseas payment even if using US card/address.
