Received New Yearly Extension For Retirement At Suan Plu Bangkok

Featured Replies

Just a quick review; My friend' needed to apply for another year's retirement extension, BUT due to illness last week his current extension expired and he was on a week’s overstay.

We showed up at 7:50, about 50+ people in line. It was the usual mix of tourists, resident ex-pats, and business people in the line outside. We went in at 8:00, got queue number 906 (number 6) in Room 101, and were out by 8:40 with his yearly extension. Of course being a week late to get his new yearly extension, he paid 3500 baht in overstay penalties.

My friend was worried because a 'resident expert' (read as; quack) told him he would have to leave the country to acquire a new Non-Immigrant Type O visa FIRST. It was however exactly like the quick and honest advice I received here on the forum from the visa gurus.

Paperwork used;

TM-7 Extension of Temporary Stay

Copies of appropriate passport pages, and exit card

Bank letter certifying adequate funds for the adequate time

Copies of all bank book pages

Health Certificate

Letter from Landlord stating residency in Thailand

The only thing I didn't have a copy of (and had to run across the street for) was the 'overstay stamp' they put in his passport showing he paid the fine.

I thought it strange Immigrations Officer took both the Health Certificate, and the letter of residency in Thailand. When I applied for my own extension, she gave me those back as not needed.

As I'd also asked for a re-entry permit queue number before we went into room 101, when I came out, I just walked up to the re-entry permit counter and said I’d been in the bathroom. They processed the reentry permit quickly as well.

Anyway, all in all a painless, quick, and trouble free trip.

So many times people slam Suan Plu as a cluster-<deleted>, but in my experience it is usually from people who are either not familiar with the rules, or think they are a special case (when the reality of it is; NO ONE is a special case).

congratulations and thanks for your info,

I might add that the Health Certificate and Residency Letter are not official requirements to get an annual retirement extension from immigration. But as we know, not all immigration offices follow the same rules.

They were not asked for and would not have been - the person just provided and to make life easy they accepted.
