Cat Cdma Usb Modem

Featured Replies

This may be a dumb question , but here goes..

I have a CAT CDMA MC727 USB modem, which I use both on a Mac and PC , and pay for an un limited Monthly account,

I am now looking at getting a new touch screen mobile phone, This new mobile phone will have a browser / OS and Wi-Fi

capability's , when I leave my house normally I don't go into a Wi-Fi area, so surf the internet I could use the EDGE

option ( extra cost ) I was wondering this ... as I have a MC727 USB modem, could I in some way use this to connect to the internet on my new mobile phone and its browser . It would be great if the CAT MC727 had Two uses, connecting my computer and my mobile phone all for the same cost . Is this possible in some way

Your thoughts on this would be appreciated

Thanks in Advance :)

Unfortunately not possible!

PDA's do not have USB interfaces so cannot communicate directly to the CAT USB modem.

The only thing you can do is when at home, set up internet sharing.

If you have a laptop with wifi built in, you can stick the CAT modem in it and set the system for internet sharing. Any wifi capable device (another laptop, your PDA phone,...) can then use the internet you provide through your laptop/CAT modem...

If you have a desktop PC you can do pretty much the same, but you'll have to buy a USB WIFI stick. You can do then exactly the same as described above with the laptop.

Hi and thanks for the advice, it was just a long shot , it would have been nice to use the USB modem on the mobile phone when I was out and about :D

there is a fujitsu PDA which had a USB host - but I doubt drivers are available

depending on your skill level an Asus wireless router with USB port running openwrt can accept some of these USB modems.
