O "marriage" Income Rules

Featured Replies

Appreciate it if someone could clarify the income requirements for marriage visas. Do I (husband) have to demonstrate a 40k personal income, or is it a minimum income requirement for the *couple*?

My situation is that I got married a couple of months ago. I'm currently working on an F visa, but I would really like to quit my current job and find something else, which would require a change of visa. I have the minimum bank balance, but I may be unemployed for a while and wouldn't have the 40k income myself. However, my wife earns well above that.

Will immigration accept my wife's income for the purpose of the 40k minimim income requirement?

Thanks for your help.

No. It has to be your income/savings.

Here is the rule.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

The other option is of course to show 400,000 in a bankaccount in thailand in your own name. Must be there for at least 2 months.

Ahhh!!!! Thanks for that. I didn't realise it was *or* 400k in the bank account, I thought you needed both. I have the 400k no problem.

If I get this kind of visa, is it likely to be difficult to apply for a work permit as well?

Not at all, many people have a WP while on an extension of stay based on marriage.

Within the last 30 days of your current stay go along to Immigration and apply.

You will need. Your Wife to be interviewed. Marriage Certificate. Wife's ID Card and House registration. A letter from your bank verifying your bank balance. Up to date bank book with the same balance. Photo's of you and your Wife in and around the house. A map showing the way to your house. Passport. Application form TM7. 1,900 Baht fee. Passport size photo. Everything copied and signed.

You will be given a 30 day under consideration stamp . Go back in a month and get the remainder.
