Best Root Canal Treatment In Chiang Mai?

Not sure what you mean by "best" at "Thai prices"........... but I have had two root canal treatments at Grace (one in 2005 and the other completed this month). The recent one involved multiple visits (8 or 9, I think) because of a lingering infection that needed to be nailed before closing. Cost 6,000 baht. Cue the inevitable comments that XYZ charges only a fraction of that.......... but I'll head straight back to Grace if/when I need it again. The specialist Dr Kessara (not sure of the spelling) speaks good English and is gentle, charming, fun and 100% meticulous/skilled in her work.

By best I mean most professional and painless. I have made some bad experiences, where I had severe

pain during the process in spite of being injected with Novocain, and unprofessional work, where one

root canal was forgotten in a tooth that had two.

By Thai prices I mean, that I do not compare how much a root canal costs in America or Europe vs. Thailand,

but compare prices for the same kind of treatment within Chiang Mai.

From what I have heard, but I'm not 100% sure of course, the Dr. Kassara Puttamapun you most like

talk about, now works at empress dental clinic. Perhaps I should contact here there.

I understand now. Just looked at the Empress website: a] it is the same Dr. Kassara Puttamapun - I'd know that smile anywhere :) and b] my recent root canal treatment was for a pre-molar - which Empress list @ 6-7,000 baht. Incidentally, I recall that I also had numerous X-rays done at various stages of the work at Grace - all included.

Thanks Steve,

This means, Dr. Kassara Puttamapun does now work at Empress and not at Grace any longer. Is that

right? Or does she work at both clinics?

Incidentally, I need work on my upper premolars as well.

From what I have checked on the internet, the best price in CM seems to be around 3,500 - 4,500 Bht

per root canal for a premolar, but I have no feedback on the professional performance.

No, she's still working at Grace. I knew that she also worked elsewhere (as do many) but didn't know it was at Empress. Perhaps you know that Dr Jarunee was also at Grace before starting Empress; I used to see her for cleaning (superb) though I think I read here that she doesn't do that any more at Empress?

Dr. Jarunee specializes in periodontics and hygiene. She is the best. But she refers patients to her colleagues for other dental work.

Yes, Jarunee will still do cleaning if you request her. She brings other dentist's in on an 'as needed' basis.

For new customers there is a tendency to try and divert the load on to junior staff - just insist it's Jarunee you want and you will certainly get her.

A couple of years ago I had a lot of dental surgery done at Grace clinic... including 9 root canals. I was very pleased with the service. During the root canals they stopped at several times to take more exrays to make SURE that they had were getting it done correctly. I was happy with the cost and certainly far less than the same procedure in Canada.

I had one root canal done last week and am having another today at Dental4u on Thapae Rd not far from Thapae Gate.

Dr. Jutamas Malarat is the endodontist there who does the root canals. I was very pleased with the professional, efficient and friendly service and have had no after effects from the first one. Have not seen final bill yet but am expecting about 6000baht/tooth.

With two root canal treatments required soon, my question is this:

Where in CM would I find the best (painless) root canal treatment at Thai prices?

First hand experiences are most appreciated.

Looks like there are many places in Chiang Mai. i went to Tong Nat, just on the corner of Suan Dok and the canal road ( A great big purple sign, opposite a building selling organic vegetables). No pain, lots of x rays and great treatment.

I have had such luck with the RAM Hospital Dental Clinic over many years - Wisdom teeth and root canals done with no pain and reasonable prices. I would go to Grace Clinic if I could not go to RAM, but there are quite a few good places in Chiang Mai.

Fortune is very good - having my implant done there and the surgeon is the Dean of the Dental Falculty at CMU

Much cheaper than Grace... and he's the Dean who teaches the others so I'm kinda happy with that... good luck

  • 4 weeks later...

I have waited to post followup reply until work was complete. Have now finished root canals, fillings and a crown at Dental4U on Thapae road and could not be happier with the quality, service and prices.

Filling prices depended on complexity, root canal was 6000 and crown was 6000 plus I had to have a post put in for the crown which was 3500.

Efficient, clean, painless and professional. Highly recommended.

Grace. You can find cheaper. Its your mouth, your comfort and you will live with a long time. Amortize it over the time you have left.

I had two done at Grace :) and my wife had one fixed that was botched in the USA. I used to own a dental lab. I know of what I speak.

P.S.

Expect a Crown after a RC. Go with all ceramic or PFM with Noble metal ( 80%+ gold if me). You get what you pay for.
