Laptop Connects To Net

Featured Replies

My laptop keeps dialing in to connect to the internet by itself after I disconnect.

I thought it might be an Outlook setting so I shut Outlook down.

Still dials in within a few minutes.

Then I closed uTorrent.

Still doing it.

Does this sound like a virus or worm ?

I run three protection programs; Spybot, SuperAntispyware and Avira.

but they find nothing.

When I logout of Windows after disconnecting,

I lose all my tab locations so I dont like this fix.

Any ideas would be appreciated !

Thanks

It could be a hijack as well but not sure. haven't worked with dial-up for ages.

Try this:

Internet Explorer select ---> Tools option.

Tools ----> Internet Options.

An options window now opens.

select ----> Connections tab and ensure "never dial a connection" is selected.

This will prompt to click the connect button every time a connection is required.

If it doesn't help, my guess is you have been hijacked or a dialer might cause it.

Some program is initiating the dial process.

Perhaps it's the anti-virus trying to download recent updates?

Check what number it is dailing ASAP could be costing you a lot of money, as mentioned above may be a hijack connecting you to premium number. I am not talking about the number in your dialup settings but the actual number it is dialing, not sure how you can do it in Thailand though.

Thanks for the suggestions .....

It looks like it was Firefox that was conneccting automatically.

Not IE, Outlook or uTorrent.

BTW, if you are hijacked, what protection programs should find it ?
