Sending Money To Thailand

Featured Replies

Hi All.

What is best?

exchange the Aust $ in Thai baht before sending.

Or get the bank to do it there?

(My partner wants to sent a small amount to her Grandmother

to cover the cost of a funeral for her husband.)

Thanks

I can't speak for the Ozzie dollar, but the rates for the UK pound are much better in Bangkok, than in London. :)

My advice is let the bank do the exchange on arrival.

Small amounts are a killer, as the TT fees are high. :D

Swift is better than moneygram if it's not too urgent, because of the less than generous rate of exchange of the latter.

.......Not to mention the exorbitant fees charged by them also !!!!

And how did you arrive at those arbitrary figures for both Moneygram and Western Union?

BOTH of which levy charges on a sliding scale.........the more you send, the more you pay.

IE, both of them charge a MINIMUM of £12, even if thats only to send £10

Send £1000 and you get charged around £45 with both M/Gram and W/Union

SWIFT it, however and it costs no more than around £26 for upto any ammount in funds(I send mine for £10)

Swift from the uk charged £25 for 7 day delivery, £40 for 5 day, but have found it to be more like 3 days.

Sent money over in June changing currency in the uk at 55baht/£ and I doubt a thai bank would have offered more at the time.

For a small amount I believe the charges also decrease to around £10 minimum.
