Well yesterday we got the very sad news of the refusal of my g/fs tourist visa. There were several reasons for the refusal, doubt that we had a subsisting relationship since December 2008. My answer to that would be we don't really have much proof as i've been in thailand with her most of the time since that date. Also they said they don't think her job is good enough reason to return back to Thailand. It says she is a single person of working age in modest employment with no assets ties or property to encourage her her presence in Thailand. One very big mistake I made myself was rushing the application form outside the visa center. As we had already filled one out on the day we applied, we got there and had to re-fil the new application form as they said ours was the old one, one of the questions is, have you ever been refused a visa to any other country, I answered no but she has been refused a visa to switzerland 3 years ago. I knew about this but had rushed the application form, I looked at the previous form that I had filled out and I ad answered yes to that question. So on her refusal form it basically said she has made an attempt at deception and has now dented her credibilty for any future applications, also saying that it is hard for them to belive any of the evidence we supplied. It has made me feel like a complete fraud of which I definetly not, we only wanted a 3 week period in UK. Looking back that were a lot of holes in our application for which i now massivly regret not doing properly. It says she has no ties in Thailand like property, land etc. I don't exactly have the funds to knock up a half million baht house just for the sake of a 3 week holiday request. Most of our relationship has been while i'm over here in Thailand, does that mean i'm supposed to go home for 6 months just to collect phone bills and emails or whatever else it is they want. If they had interviewed my g/f they would of got a far clearer picture than what they can by looking at some photographs and phone bills. Anyone applying soon learn from my mistakes. Of course 30 seconds after the refusal we were swamped by thai "agencies" saying hey hey hey we gurantee 100% first time you get visa, then straight after saying, you no get, you no pay. So how is that a guarentee? Would like to hear from anyone that has any suggestions on what next, wait 6 months? Build more evidence? thanks

Hi. It would be my advice to wait a few months before applying again and ensure you have documented evidence to prove your length of relationship. A visitor visa is not for a couple to 'get to know' each other, one should be in an established relationship before applying for a visa. On the deception front, when you next apply, write a good sponsor letter explaining it was your fault as you rushed completing the form and did not try to hide any facts, that you realised your mistake after the application had been submitted but could do nothing about it. Throw yourself onto your sword and they may accept it was a genuine mistake. Good luck.

I'm sorry to say you may have created a severe problem for future applications, because of the "deception" element, even if it was an innocent mistake on your part. Does the refusal form mention Para 320.7A of the Immigration Rules? If so, then any future application for any purpose, even settlement, may be refused for the next 10 years. If not, then if you can show a genuine continuing relationship over a longer period, you may have a better chance in the future.

No one can guarantee a visa. You should apply again and write a covering letter explaining everything, however if the ECO is not satisfied you may be refused again.

I'm sorry, but how could you forget about the Swiss refusal, no matter how 'rushed' you were? All you had to do is copy the details from the old form to the new one!

It is this 'deception' that is the main problem, I feel. But what evidence did you produce to show the length of your relationship, that you hade been with her in Thailand all this time, that she had a job etc.?

If applying again then she must address each and every point of the refusal.
