We live in the North East and my wifes passport is due to expire early next month.

Rather than drive all the way to Chang Wattana we would prefer to do it by EMS.

Apparently we can renew by post - I konw the replacement cost is 1005 baht but even when phoning the MFA we were unable to find out if (and how much ) return EMS costs would be.

The UK embassy charges 30 baht for this service.

Has anyone (or their partner) any experience of renewing their passport by mail?

The MFA website has forms for downloading at its site here:

Which form is required for the renewal?

Thanks in advance

Now we have to define renewing of passport as the Thai passport is only valid for five years as issued but a signature can add another five years. But most of us think of renewal as a new passport when the current one expires.

So is this service for a re issue of a passport or just the 5 year thing? As special digital photos are required for new passport I suspect it is only the 5 year stamp/signature.

Anyone know for sure?

Will find out in the morning after the visit to the PO!

I suspect its like a fast track service as offered in the UK at main post offices - there you pay a few pounds more for the PO staff to check all is in order before it's sent off by them to the passport office.
