Government invests Bt51.2 million to assist business investors

By John Le Fevre

BANGKOK (thaivisa.com): -- The Ministry of Industry is to set up a One Stop Service Center to assist foreign investors wishing to establish or expand their business operations in Thailand.

The new center will commence operation on October 1, after the Cabinet earlier this week approved the Bt51.2 million (about $US1.5 million) the ministry sought for its establishment.

The new center will provide information and consultancy on all of the steps for applying for licenses to run businesses in Thailand, as well as assist those who wish to expand their existing business ventures.

Industry Minister Charnchai Chairungruang said that the center will provide faster services to investors, since officials from investment-related offices will be posted at the one office.

He also said the Office of the Board of Investment (BOI) is in the process of opening six new overseas offices, which will be completed by September this year.

Charnchai said the new offices will enhance the BOIs capacity in attracting new investments and serve as an effective network, covering a larger area of target countries.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said that, with Thailand’s plentiful natural resources, skilled workforce, service-mindedness, and living conditions that are conducive to the lifestyle of expatriate business people and their families, investors in Thailand should feel “at ease and at home.”

He said that it was very encouraging to see that the interest of the international investment community in Thailand continuing to grow, even in today’s turbulent economic environment.

I'm confused. The BOI was set up as THE one-stop service centre for foreign investors and it says that in their web site.

So what are they setting up now? The second one-stop service centre for when the first one-stop service centre doesn't know the answer to the question?
