Ed Visa..and Then What?

Hi all.

I currently have a tourist visa, and for a while now i have though about that i have to do something about that... and with the latest news about penang, i'm afraid thet could spread to other places, as Vientiane as i usually go to.

So i have been thinking about educational visa, while learning thai, that seems like a good idea.

From what i understand this could be extended to 3 or 5 years..?

But do anyone have any suggestions for what i can do after this?

I'm not nearly old enough to get retirement visa, and i have some income, but not enough to do the married visa (40k month / 400k in bank).

What other options do i have?

Is it possible to go back to tourist visa for a while after the ED visa?

Is it possible to go back to EU and then come back to do the ED visa again?

Or do i have other options?

The income/mone in the bank you mention is for an extension of stay from immirgation, but not necesary to get a multiple non-O immigrant visa. Withat you would leave the country every 90 days, but can stay almost 15 months on it in Thailand.

As for the ED visa, I believe you can even spread it out longer. You don't have to study Thai, you can also study other subjects.

So you say i can get a non-imm O visa without the 40k/400k ? but then i would have to leave every 90 days? So practically mostly the same routine as i have now with tourist visa? If so, that would have been great.

This is something that can be repeated? (as for the laws/rules that apply now at least)

ED visa for studying thai is fine, i want to learn some more about that anyway.

But if you know some more info about if it can be spread out more, i would be happy for that...or anyone else who have done the same

we show in the bank 400k and thats all we have to do ? to get the marry visa.

OR 400k + 40k mohntly incoming as well??

Yes, it is no problem having non-O isas back to back.

As for the ED visa, the requirement is a recoggnised school and you have to study for a minimum of 4 hours a week on average. The cost for a one year study Thai is around 29,000 baht. On top of the page you can click the banner of two schools to get some more information about the ED visa.

You have to show (not we) 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank OR 40,000 Baht monthly income.

But thanks about info in non-im O visa, now i know what to look for I always though the 40k/400k was the only option there.

no, it's 40k income a month OR 400k in bank, have to stay for at least 2 or 3 months

That is for an O-A Visa . You are talking about an O Visa.

That is information about the O-A visa, not the non-immigrant O visa.

For the non-O visa you can better ask here on the forum where to go when you need one. Every consulate and embassy has its own policy, which also changes from time to time.

basicly you will need a copy of your marriage certificate and a letter from your wife asking for a visa for you, together with a copy of her ID would also be nice. Some consulates also want to see some money in the bank, but not the mentioned 400,000.

Going to immigraiton won't help you much, as they don't go ablout visas. Immigration goes about extension of stay.

Reports from KL have mention an amount of 100,000 Baht.

The money in account is to issue the one year multi entry and 100k has been mentioned but people with less (20k or none) have still been issued the visa. For a single entry it is not asked.

I would carry the bank passbook/copy.

Marriage certificate and copy.

Copy of wife ID card signed and dated.

Short letter from wife that you live with her and asking for visa to be issued.

Copy of her home register.

The last two are not likely to be asked but good to have if any questions.

as i said, i will do the ED visa first..so that would give me 3-5 years to marry and save some money, sounds good

non-im O visa, only avalable in Malaysia at this time? i was hoping i wouldn't have to go there anymore anyway, small price..

I think it will help if I say that now it is possible to extend ED visa with the Callan and Walen school for 10 years. 10 years is very long time but what after 10 years? We will see but in the meantime 10 years is long enough to make serious plans about Thailand without visa fears.

take the ED visa for the next 5 years and I believe by then things might have changed... so its a bit early to think that. The rules might have changed, you might not want to stay here anymore, or you might have a work that provides you the visa and wp. So I think its way too early to worry about life after 3-5 years of ED ...
