The other drivers and teams are happy to see him given one day in practice in the current car. Its only the fans of other drivers (not the drivers themselves - who desperately want as close to a level playing field as possible when racing with the 'legend') who disagree.

Actually, it seems like it's not only the fans who are against the rules being broken for the benefit of Mr Schumacher and the Ferrari team.

Hi

It seems that there is now some doubt about Schumi's neck being up to the job.

Call me cynical but are we being softened up for a no show after lots of Valencia tickets being sold on the strength of his appearance.

Personaly I would not put anything past the current powers that be.

Could be that.

Or it could simply be that someone's feet are getting a little chilly. Having made the decision to race for Massa within a few days, perhaps now given more time to reflect, it's dawning on him what is at stake here. Yes he could pull it off and be a comeback hero... or he could spin off on the warm up lap and look a fool. It's a gamble make no mistake. He realises that.

The fitness concerns that are just coming out now are i reckon a convenient ready-made excuse should he need it.

This way, should Schumi feel he doesn't have the pace, he can simply say before the race that though he would love to go racing, sadly the medics have advised against it. Or indeed should he go ahead and race and not perform well, he can point to his fitness as being the reason. If on the other hand he does well he can receive all the deserved plaudits and admit that he was in pain but courageously fought through it.

The games have begun. :D

The same thought has crossed my mind, but I find it hard to believe that Schumi would agree to such a thing. Why should he? He hardly needs the money.

I know Rivalex thinks that Schumi may be getting cold feet, but I find that equally unlikely as he's not likely to find out how well he can compete in the current car until he does so. (As has been said previously on the thread, 3 teams denied Ferrari's request for a one day test in the current car - so he'll not get the chance until practice on the Friday before the race. Thank god for that as I couldn't stand all the 'cheating' allegations from fans of other drivers!)

But then again, I could be wrong! :D Can't wait to find out!!

It was announced today that M Shumacher has decided not to race in F1 again as he states that his neck is not up to the strains that driving F1 puts on it.

F1fanatic I have to disagree in your assumption that other drivers fans could possibly put a stop to his comeback, there is one man that makes the rules and we all know who that is. :D .

Sorry, I never meant to imply that other driver fans could put a stop to his comeback. I was only trying (badly) to say that none of the drivers had anything against him having a one day test in the F60, only their fans (and, as it turns out 3 teams - but who can blame them - certainly not me).

I feel v sorry for all those fans who bought tickets to races purely because Schumi would be racing again. I think we can safely say they will not be happy - unlike the 'one man that makes the rules' who will be overjoyed at the increased ticket sales! Somehow I doubt they will be able to get their money back!

They have no chance of getting a cent back! I have a friend who is still waiting for a refund after the Belgian GP was canceled when the track tarmac disintegrated at Spa and that must be at least 20 years ago!

Shame though, I would have liked to have seen how Schumi coped with the latest cars.

Now we have too see how the Alonso/Renault fiasco pans out!

After this they wouldn't dare stop Alonso racing at Valencia would they?! :D It was a bad decision IMO in the first place, but with all those unhappy fans out there.......

Well, the guessing is over, as of a few hours ago, Schumacher cancelled his comeback due to his neck injury from the motorcycle accident earlier this year. I for one am glad he is not returning. IMHO he had nothing to gain and everything to loose. His loyal fans will always love him but you can imagine what the press would do to him if his driving wasn't perfect just for the sake of selling newspapers. Go out in a blaze of glory and don't look back!

So, Luca Badoer instead of Schummi...No better I think, but at least a bit more ethical.....Poor Badoer certainly remembered when Ferrari did not call him to replace Schummi when this one broke his leg a few years back....

"A bit more ethical"??

Badoer has been a test driver for many years. I've no doubt he's extremely well paid and realised years ago that he didn't quite have what it takes to be an F1 driver - otherwise either Ferrari or another team would have taken him on.

Good luck to him (genuinely) now that he's been called to the frontline, but I cannot see how choosing Schumi over Badoer was in any way unethical.

I'm still gutted. :)

I might mot have used the right word then !

Seems that his neck just wasn't up to it.

Not the full story i would say. I've already stated my suspicions anyway.

(P.S. In MotoGP riders regularly race with broken fingers, toes, feet etc... and quite possibly stiff necks too!)

F1 is a bit different! There's a reason why its considered the pinnacle of motorsport!
