Getting Married To Thai Girl

Featured Replies

hi was wondering what kind of visa does a EU citizen receive when they marry a Thai citizen....do they receive visa after marriage or do people apply for one before marriage

You can apply for a Non Imm O Visa. This gives a stay of 90 days. A Multi entry version gives multiple stays of up to 90 days each stay and is valid for a year.

You can get 12 month extensions of stay if you can meet the financial requirements.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

You re apply every year.

You can get married in Thailand while holding any kind of visa, even a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp. The problem starts when you want to remain in Thailand. To remain in Thailand, you should get a Non-Immigrant "O" visa, preferably multiple entry, before arriving and then get a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage from immigration while in Thailand. If you are 50 years old or over, then there is a retirement option but you need more financial resources.

A male does not obtain an extension of stay for marriage - he must also show income of 40k per month or a bank account with 400k in Thailand that has been at or above that level for 2 months. If you qualify for extension of stay there is no need for more than a single entry non immigrant visa.

wot if male applicant earns lets say 30k a month and wife earns 25k a month does male still need to earn the 40k

It has to be the Husbands money/income as it says in the ruling.

All 40k per month must be the husbands alone, no credit given for wife's earnings.

This money, 400.000 baht, must be sitting in your bankaccount for the last 3 months prior to application of VISA....

2 Months for the first application and depending on where you go 2 or 3 months thereafter.
