george Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Firefox passes billionth milestone The open-source browser Firefox passed its billionth download on Friday, ahead of the release of its fourth iteration. The milestone includes downloads of all versions of the web software since its first release in 2004. Figures suggest that Firefox now has nearly one third of the browser market worldwide, at 31%. Microsoft's Internet Explorer still dominates the field with around 60%, whilst Google's Chrome, Apple's Safari and Opera are all less than 5%. -- http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8177829.stm 2009-08-03

bdenner Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 This poll was done last December Here Still Firefox for me.
noahvail Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Just like McDonald's - over one billion served! But I wouldn't be without it. My wife still uses IE and seems to be constantly running into this problem or that one. Firefox has been easy to work with, gets the problems fixed without fanfare, and it would take a lot for me to switch.
Gary A Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I prefer Firefox but have been using Safari quite a bit for surfing. Each new release of Firefox works great but after a few weeks, glitches begin to show up. Yesterday I uninstalled it and reinstalled. Some sites do not render properly. They render perfectly with Safari. Safari lacks add ons.
GmB Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 From the web developer point of view safari chrome and firefox are pretty similar; usually there are not major differences in rendering pages. Internet Explorer is a real pain. I voted firefox for the add-ons; some of them are really a must have for a developer (firebug, web deloper toolbar, measureIt, colorzilla etc.)

It was the same before reinstall. The other shot is from Safari.

Even more funny/sad is that my Firefox is rendering properly that page and that your horizontal scrollbar is starting at few pixels on the left of the boxes . It looks like an iframe but there are not iframes in that page, the left border of the body should be exactly where your scrollbar is placed. What version of Firefox is that? Could be an add-on installed?
Gary A Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Firefox is a strange animal. Today it updated to 3.5.2. I understood that to be a security update, but in any case, that eBay page now displays properly. ??????????
cdnvic Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 And Chrome lacks add-ons as well. Exactly, and Google doesn't look too interested in changing that.
Gary A Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I like the add on WebMail notifier but it was causing problems with Hotmail and Yahoo passwords. Today I put it back in Firefox and put Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo mail in it. Sure enough, I had problems with my Yahoo home page and Hotmail passwords. I removed Yahoo mail and everything works properly. It seems to work fine with just Gmail and Hotmail.
