Hi, i was hoping someone could answer a question for me relating to working in thailand and the legality of it.

I know the basic thai visa and working rules but have a slight on the usual question i think.

I have a registered company in the UK which mainly makes and develops websites. Am i able to take on thai clients and make sites for them without the need for a Thai business visa and work permit. That way i can live for a few months at a time in bangkok with a tourist visa and make websites for thai comapanies as well as british.

My thinking is that as i am a UK company and being paid into a UK business account i skip the need to be on a thai work permit and business visa. The same as maybe a thai company would hire a consultant from another country.

I hope this is clear and i would be very grateful if someone could shed some light on the situation for me.

Thank you

thom

If you stay in Thailand and do your work in Thailand you need a work permit.

Thank you for the fast replies,

But if my home address is in the UK and i am just using an apartment for stay then don't i skip this need. e.g. if a business man works for a while in thailand for a thai company they will put him up in a hotel or apartment for a while but he is still living outside. and as i will not be here the whole i am not technically living here. Or anyone doing any work for any amount of time for a thai company needs a business visa and work permit? Don't thai companies hire consultants from other companies outside the kingdom? what do they do?

sorry that i don't quite grasp it

Yes you need a Work permit

Yes they do and generally the Thai company will arrange the work permit...

Strictly speaking you dont need a WP to attend "meetings" with Thai companies only a Non-imm B, but waht you intend to do is work....

Please read up on TV on the countless threads dealing with this....not going to re-hash things here...

He still works in Thailand and needs a work permit for that. For a work permit you need to be employed by a Thai company, or as said by Soutpeel establish a regional office. (For a regional office you would need to employ at least 1 Thai person).

In your case it might be best to get on the payroll of the company you do the work for. Then you could get a WP.
