Can't Click Through Into Firefox Window From Other Applications

Featured Replies

I'm running Firefox 3.5.2 and apart from some little niggles with 3rd party stuff not working with 3.5 I have found it ok. However, something has changed or somehow I've accidentally changed something as I can't click through from other applications which would normally want to open a new Firefox (or Explorer if you were using that) window or tab. Examples are in utorrent, asking it to check if a port was forwarded correctly or in Skype (your logged in area) where some pages have links to Skype websites and you cannot click through to them.

I've had a look around Firefox and nothing stood out. Then I thought about other software, particularly security stuff, stopping pop ups for instance. I've looked at them too albeit briefly and nothing jumped up. Just wondered if anyone else had the same issue or knew what was most likely to be causing it.

I'm running AVG Anti Virus, Avast, Avira Antivir, Spybot and Spyware Doctor.

I don't get any pop up notifiers as I would with some things so I'm a little stumped.

Thanks

if you click on a http:// link in your email program will it open your default browser Firefox?

Which specific application does not allow to open FF? It could be a firewall issue

More background info would be helpful. I am using 3.5.2 too and don't have discovered any issue so far.

You are not running all that anti virus at the same time I hope? I have same 3.5.2 and uTorrent brings up tab fine. But only running Kaspersky.

Good point Lopuri3! Couldn't see the wood for the trees.

In case the OP is running that concurrently...

The LAW of the land... (always in combination)

Firewall/Firewall NEVER

Anti Virus / Anti Virus NEVER

Firewall / Antivirus YES

Antivirus /Spyware YES

We had a problem when migrating from FF2.xx-FF3.xx - which we cured via a little CLI chicanery

But - as you are running M$ ?/? - why doncha give us all the h/w & s/w specs - we will get it sorted sooner rather than later

Ya might want to go back to the previous install point and see if thats good.

Just make Firefox your default browser and any and all clickthroughs will go to firefox as opposed to any other browser, say like IE.

Click on the circle on the bottom of utorrent which brings up a speed guide box which has a check through to "test if port is forwarded properly". This no longer clicks through to a new tab it creates in your browser.

Also in things in skype, listed in OP.

No, not all running at the same time.

HW = HP desktop Intel Quad Core running Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

Using Firefox as browser.

Firefox is the default browser. If it wasn't, then it would surely just open the one which was.

What does happen is the little spinning / swirling circle comes on for a fraction of a second. The box in utorrent flashes as if it is trying to switch to FF but is then stopped by something. In Skype, it just refuses to click with no visual reference.

Disable User Account Control & reboot.

Disable User Account Control & reboot.

Many thanks JD.

If you don't mind, could you explain why ? and do I have to keep the User Account Control off ? It was always on before.

Much obliged.
