Reacting to fears that the Thai buffalo could be on its way to extinction, the Livestock Development Department and Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Veterinary Science are set to visit the Northeast in October to gather data for the animal's conservation.

Theera Pattarapornnant, a researcher with the team that is developing a bodyscanning device for Thai buffaloes at the National Electronics and Computer Technology Centre (NECTEC), said yesterday that the NECTEC had consulted with the two agencies to establish a working team to determine the standard size of Thai buffaloes.

While the NECTEC was developing the scanner, the two agencies would visit the lower northeastern region and collaborate with local experts to select 250 model buffalo specimens and survey their physical aspects, Theera said. The survey would take about two years to gather the data, he added.

Hello, it is a good idea for more conservation and big herds of buffalo paid for by the government so future generations will see and understand more about their heritage. They should start as early as possoble as more buffalo get sick or stolen every day, and maybe the government can get some foreign governments to help with some funding for conservation of course. Cheers.

i asked my wife five years back what she wanted for her birthday, she said a pregnant buffalo.

i brought one . its kept me awake since, wondering what would happen, to them, sick stolen kebabbed so far nothing, but there has been the most awfull amount of family sickness and death

Yes! Save the buffalo! If buffaloes (or is it 'buffali?') become extinct, people here might forget about them; therefore, the word 'kwai' or even 'buffalo' may be forgotten.

if this happens, what will I use as a joke to entice the ladies?

P.s I saw a cracking show on T.V about these two buffaloes who knelt before and prayed to Buddha. They were about to be executed by their owner until they ran away and knelt before buddha. The farmer quickly realised that killing these buffaloes might jeprodise his 'next life' (Being stinkin' rich and respected for it) so now they're worshiped by all in the village.

Maybe we should investigate and establish if a foreigner pays for the buffalo for his G/F is she then a nominee of the foreigner and the buffalo can be taken by the government or can he gift her the money for her to buy it in her own name with the foreigner signing that he has no claim to it.

Same story as is runing elsewhere about land and nominee's.
