Motorists will again enjoy cheaper diesel by two baht a litre starting next week, after Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva demanded that the state Oil Fund subsidise prices.

The premier backed a proposal by Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij for diesel price intervention, despite stiff opposition from Energy Ministry officials.

Just two days earlier, Energy Minister Wannarat Channukul had rejected Mr Korn's idea, suggesting authorities cut fuel excise taxes if they wanted to reduce pump prices. Mr Wannarat insists that the fuel levies collected by the Oil Fund are essential to fund long-term development of alternative fuels. continued

Another area for investigative reporting. Who and how many individuals/family of same draw a government paycheck and are share holders in companies receiving monies via this avenue? The knowledge and where with all for alternate fuels is a given. No need for development, unless you are referring to subsidies for building the facilities. There are so many glimmers/ whispers (growing louder in volume) of corruption within various government entities, even the deaf/blind are starting to pay attention.

This is a very sensible move! :) Most farm equipment and most commercial trucks are diesel powered, so cutting the price of diesel cuts the cost of producing food and delivering to the cities. This move will do more to control the cost of living than anything else the government could do.

yes diesel is a big component in food production and delivery - but an efficient rail system would also make a huge difference.

Only if the Farmers and Trucking Companies pass on the savings to their Customers - and that's impossible for the Government to police.

I'd be prepared to bet that most simply keep the "bonus" themselves.

Tis better to rebate farmers and truckers on their fuel receipts if you want a measurable reduction in agricultural costs.

This decision has little to do with common sense, but a lot to do with "Spin the bottle"! :)

All this talk is nonsense, it is the tax structure that needs to be revised, this morning I have seen the price of 91 at 35.74 up from 34.94 when the price of oil is $73, where is the justification? It seems that no matter what the authorities always find a way to take more money from the customers no matter what the market price is. :)

Since the first mention of the 2 baht/liter reduction in price the pump price for diesel in CM has gone from 28.69 to 30.44 with the last increase taking place Sunday night. With this type of price strategy the pump stations need to start putting up dispensers for Vaseline, make the f..king a little less painful.

There has been noprice reduction! Merely a simple cosmetic change, where everything else is increased to pay for it. If there were really any serious investigative journalism here, they would be asking why it was that when the international price was $147 and we were paying 41 (91), why is it now that it is $73 and we are nearly paying 36 Baht. The biggest thieves on the planet are governments!

Believe you me its passed on, last year for our combine harvester we could command minimum 650 baht a rai for paddy rice, we have just taken on some work in Roi Et for 450 baht a Rai the farmers aren't as stupid as you think & normal market conditions dictate the price no need to police it.

Three days ago B5 Diesel was 24.something baht. Two days ago (following this announcement) it jumped up to 26. Today it is 26.6 or so. I wonder how much the )(&)(*^&ing Oil companies are going to jack the price up tomorrow before they have to bring it down 2 baht! :)

If you follow the movement in the oil price you will see the last 30 days increase is to do with oil going up from $60 a barrel to $70 a barrel & at today's rate its still half the price of what it is in ripe off Britain.

Oil Price

PTT retail price?

The diesel price in CM was dropped the 2 baht last night (now 28.44. so the net saving to the consumer since the announcement on Aug. 8 when diesel was 29.04 is the grand total of 60 stang. Oil price during this time frame, no change.
