when i type a tone mark in Thai into Microsoft word it puts a dotted circle where the consonant will go. The trouble is it stays there on the screen and prints this also. Is there anyway to stop the dotted circle from showing on the screen, or more importantly showing on the printed page, making the consonant harder to read ?

It doesn't show up here in this example but on word you see the dotted circle around the consonant

I don't have this problem, so we may need more details:

Operating system?

Version of Word?

Font?

Font version if you've added the font to your system.

If not using Vista, do you have complex script support enabled?

Also, though it's a very long shot, check what characters you actually have. You can do this by convering the offending string to Unicode characters. I use the fact that in my version of Word alt-x toggles the preceding text between Unicode codes and characters. If you have typed the text correctly, you should get 0E2D0E49. Did you cut and paste the offending text from Word to your post?

I was having the same issue with my Word 2007 (running on Vista), but I just switched fonts until I found ones that don't do that. I have no idea how it works, I just know it worked for me. My new complaint is that it'll automatically replace vowels. For instance, if I'm trying to type นะ and then accidentally hit another vowel, ะ will be replaced. But I just have to learn to quit typing so quickly. hehe

For fonts, Angsana New and Cordia New are the usual ones I use for serious documents, and Lily UPC or Worasait if I'm playing around on MSN.

Hope it helps.
