Featured Replies

i'm thinking of getting married around xmass

the only problem is i haven't divorced my x yet

before anyone jumps the gun i've been with my thai girl near five years and have

tested her out if you no what i mean, and if she's out to have me over she deserves

a medal as well as any money she can get. as over 15 years iv'e seen quite a bit in los

no my concern is if i can marry (monks tambon party ect)in the village without my divorce papers

and legalise the wedding in bangkok when my papers come through, say three months later?

i think this is ok? but if any one can put me straight i'd be obliged.

cheers

I don't know.

My understanding is that the Buddhist side of it has no legal bearing, thus you are not committing bigamy.

This isn't uncommon in Thailand. Just make sure you make appropriate changes to your will (or get one) if you want the new "wife" to receive any pension or life insurance that would normally go to the legal next of kin (spouse).

As I understand it there is no problem with the local village 'marriage' with the monks etc. However when your divorce papers come through you will have to wait one year from the date of the divorce before you can legally marry in Thailand.

What country are you referring to? There's no such requirement for a man in Thailand.
