Elephant Falls Down Hole!

Featured Replies

Is it me, or does a story make it onto TV at least once a week, about an elephant falling into some sort of hole and getting stuck? The scene is the same each time. A mob of men with rope and a small crane, or even another elephant, trying to pull it out.

I would have thought after this happening for the hundredth time someone somewhere might look at taking steps to avoid this. And I don't mean the elephant. Sort the holes of limit the range of elephants. Still, I guess it's entertainment for the locals :) .

It's actually a ceremony. The works of A.A Milne have been translated into Thai and you are watching re-enactments of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet setting heffalump traps.

I would suspect with the worldwide outbreak of swine flue.....Winnie the Pooh is staying well away from Piglet... :)

Beer over keyboard award :D

Glad to hear there are others who love A.A. Milne's delightful stories. I've still got some of his poems memorized from the time they were read to me as a child... 65 years ago.

Amazingly yesterday I saw on the Yahoo front page a video story about a baby elephant stuck in a hole in Rayong ! It was a different story to the one which I was referring in my OP. Thailand just can't get enough of elephants falling into holes :)

Great post, great thread.

The Rayong story made it on to Al-Jazeera last night under the guise of those kind Thais saving their elephants. Nothing about dragging juvenile elephants around congested city streets night after night.

Poor little fella...

OMG! That poor little (not so little) thing. They got him out, apparently he walked upon the concrete lid to that thing and it broke under his weight. They had to use an excavator to dig around the concete pit and then hammers to break up the concrete.

I wonder if he was being led around by one of those idiots trying to make money from being cruel to elephants :)

It was also in one of the British newspapers yesterday. Poor thing, the picture of the baby elephant looking out of the hole - almost bought a tear to toad's eye.

The Elephant in Capealava's avatar seems to be doing alright...

:D:)
