Vertical Line On Monitor Screen?

Featured Replies

I have a vertical line on my monitor screen what causes that and how do you get rid of it.?

Either the monitor is going bad or the video card is going bad

Connect it to another computer and check if it works.

Can be overheating or a driver issue too.

Thanks sounds like Tech time to me.

The computer is old which may in fact have a lot to do with it. T

he monitor was replaced withing the last six months.

Shut down the computer, tum on the monitor and then open the monitor menu, if you can get a menu in the area of the line and the line is still there your monitor is had it. If not it is something to do with the computer as per first reply.

... guess you need a new card or motherboard

but let the Tech gurus diagnose it :)

Thanks Guys I will give it a try,

If the line is a single pixel wide then the odds are the line driver in the monitor (I'm assuming LCD) has failed. Bought a new monitor with that same problem, red vertical line on the left side of the screen. Got a warranty replacement. The easiest way to know for sure is to put the monitor on another computer, even a notebook if available.

That describes it perfectly except it's green.

Won't work for me wife tossed the paperwork,

The sweety keeps every scrap of paper, so this is unusual. Purchased at Macro.

Well at least I have feel for whats going on. Computer is OK that's the biggy.

Thanks

Quite common with LCD monitors by all accounts.

My Samsung had a phase a few months ago where ants were getting in behind the screen. Maybe they made somethng go pop, but I did end up with a single pixel vertical green line. I found many references to problems like this on the web.

For me, Samsung repaired this under warranty. Pretty quickly too.
