Change My Childs Name.

Featured Replies

Hey all-

Wanted to know if there was a government office in Bangkok that I can change my childs name, as it is badly spelt and we want to include my surname too.

She was not born in Bangkok but in the North of Thailand.

My GF thinks that we have to change the name at the local district office where we registered her birth, but I am hoping that we can do it in Bangkok.

It is difficult to get this information from Thais because of the language difference so I am asking here....

Does anyone have any relevant information?

Thanks.

She is correct her local district office do this they then recieve a document in Thai confirming this.

The poster is correct. However, you mention GF and not wife, therefore I assume you do not have a marriage cert.

Without some sort of proof that the child is definitely yours, the registrar of births may request that you obtain the Thai equivalent of a court order, instructing him to issue the modified cert.

Apparently the Thai authorities are extremely concerned about child trafficking.

This is Thailand. Welcome and the best of luck with your efforts.

Thai people change their names for good luck we see this all the time.

Thanks for the feedback.

My name is on the original birth certificate so hope that we do not need a court order otherwise more time and effort.

Welcome newbies, a little tip though-

You have to be quite well behaved on Thaivisa, I have run into trouble with the mods a few times for having a loose tongue!

Peace.
