Retirement Visa Requirements

Featured Replies

I am a 65 year old US citizen and have just retired. My question is this,

If I was in Thailand on a 3 month "O" visa and applied for a retirement (A visa) extension, can I get a medical certificate in Thailand or do I have to supply one from an American doctor.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

You can get one easily in Thailand. Depending where you are the cost will be between Bht 40.00 and Bht 100.00.

The bottom line for a medical certificate is 30 Baht!

Had 2 already, for Immigration and Driver License.

Of course, don't expect a full check-up for the money! :o

Many thanks to the guys who replied to my question. I'm not too concerned about having a full check-up as I have not needed to visit a doctor for over 20 years.

Getting a medical certificate here in the US is such a hassle. My doctor wanted me to take a number of tests which take time to set up and not all covered by my medical insurance and I am ready to take off to Thailand in 2/3 weeks. Again, thanks to you guys for the info.

Here, they only care if you are a danger to the public via communicable diseases or being crazy. Most doctors will fill the form out after asking just a few questions..

There's another type of med cert. this one to use to get an extension because you can't physically return to your home country because of a medical problem.. I've used this on a couple of occasions before I got my retirement visa... Different form, too

the grim reaper.... getting a medical certificate.....you'll lose all credibility ......whatever next....... lucifer helping old ladies cross the road !!

Well, I don't have any communicable diseases. I don't think I'm crazy although some of my friends think I'm a bit weird :o

Thanks again for the info

Hey, it's only for immigration purposes. I'm OK s long as they don't do a blood test. That would stretch my credibility a bit.

Lucifer only escorts old ladies halfway across the road then abandons them to the traffic :o

It's called population control :D

As I have mentioned so as to add sort of a time line on the data I just did it abot 2 weeks ago..

Here is a link to the Med form for a Visa. Thailand has a number of med forms like for Drivers Lic etc but here is the link that I doubled checked a couple of different Royal Thai Counsel sites and is the same form that was required for the App submitted in the Honolulu office.

http://www.thai-la.net/visa/medcert.doc It :o was also the same for from a site in Thailand.

This one form may be the rare execption to the TIT rule!

I got my ''o'' retirement visa 4 yrs. ago at 62.Last year when I renewed, they said''next year ,be sure a bring a medical certificate.I have not had to get one since the initial one.I am not sure why I have to bring one next time.

The medical certificate has always been required for retiree's but is now required to extend each year. It is a very cursory exam.

Are you positive about not needing a med cert when renewing(extending)? The reason I ask is the gal that has handled my extention each year is the one that told me''next year ,be sure and bring a medical certificate''.

I know it is not much of a hassle to get one.I was just curious and I forgot to ask her what the reason was.I have now moved to Nong Khai.So I probably won't extend in Bangkok.

It seems strange that you need a medical if you are retired,

but not if you are married!!

In the latter case a certificate of sanity might be more appropriate?

The reaon for the brief exam is all but one issue is done visual by the MD. They listen for TB. It is the same for DL as immi. got mi on Soi 11 for 150Baht yesterday and turned in in today whilst getting my DL at Suk 99 Transport office. I'll get the DL info up later..

Immmigration officers do not apply the same rule for everybody. I have a retirement visa for 3 years now and have never been asked for a medical certificate. I just renewed my visa in Bangkok, no question about this, just a quick remark: you look healthy.

3 friends of mine renewed their retirement visas in Mukdahan this Monday, also no question about medical certificate. They also have never been asked for a mc.
