Cpu 90 % + In Idle

Featured Replies

Try booting today 5pm - managed that first 1 am.

Yes, 8 hours to start up this ....... laptop.

CPU show 90-100 % all this time in idle. :D

Tried System restore - safe mode, nothing worked. Reboot many times.

Online was impossible, claimed all was disfunctioning: mobile modem + usb dongle modem, + mouse.

Before had incidents with white screen, black screen, blue screen.

Earlier this week antivirus warned against C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\FIDbg10b.ocx

and I was recommended to delete this in safe mode, which I did.

Can todays problem be related to removing that? :)

Always had many driver problems, and in/out of service more times than I want to remember. Warranty ends next month, so what is the main reason for these incidents ???

Please, I realy need expert advice now, before I go to service center again.

Laptop model etc and any other details would be a help!

Sounds like a hardware problem, not software.

Acer Aspire 4530

AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Mobile RM-70 2.00Ghz

HD 250GB (used only 30GB). Ram 4GB (1GB in idle).

Vista 32-bit Service pack 2, automatic update. IE 8.

Kaspersky antivirus (update + run daily) - Malwarebyte anti malware (run weekly).

which process is doing the 90% CPU thingy?

  • Author

Dont know, as the system now working (but not many hours shure). Will take note next time.

I found a similar topic from 2007 - but that member used XP:

"So I had the issues as others describe - 100% CPU utilization/System Idle Process, and a hard drive that WOULD NOT stop churning and churning and churning in WinXP. This is what I did to (so far) resolve it...

It must have happened after I decided to run Windows Catalog from Start/Programs, but who knows... Anyway, go to Add/Remove Programs / Add/Remove Windows Components/Indexing Services. UNINTALL IT!"

That member has not been online 1 year, and since I use Vista, might be different (however that user had same brand as me).

The closer System Idle is to 100% the better, or do you mean the running processes... if so, which ones. Could be hardware although a virus could also make it hang. Sys Restore may be compromised and if so taking it back wouldn't do anything. Disabling Sys Restore, running virus scan, delete virus, re-enable Sys Restore may do the trick but you'll also lose restore points if it doesn't. Best to take it in but be sure to delete all the porn first :)

Was in service center earlier today, 2 hours searching for virus, making new restore point etc ......No virus found, but they insisted to uninstall super anti spyware!

Did work when I left service 3pm. Started up 5 pm and 90-100 % CPU for 30 mins, before I reboot and F8 etc.

Normally this Acer get down to +-10% cpu in idle, 3-5 minute after booting. All evening almost 100% all night.

Click ctrl-alt-delete and see if there's something using an unusual amount of memory, it's often what's hogging CPU cycles as well.

Second, do a virus scan (do the online one at http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/)

Run Advanced System Care to deal with settings and controlling your startup programs. (http://www.iobit.com/)

Then report back :)

- firewall conflict? Must find it in safe mode?

Eset scan is running.

Running the system in safe-mode may be a good idea. If it runs well then, turn things on one by one and see if anything causes it to restart the CPU problem.

  • Author

Eset scanner took 2 hours, 0 infected files.

Please, in need of some serious advice.

we need to know which process is locking up the cpu.

it's impossible to tell what's wrong without that information.
