A majority of Bangkok residents, 79.9 per cent of 1,104 respondents, admitted that they have bought or rented counterfeited or pirated items, according to a survey by Bangkok University's research centre.

The respondents, aged 18 or above, said most of the items, 40 per cent, are movie and song CD and VCD. Followed are fashion goods like handbags, shoes, glasses and wrist watches.

The respondents cited prices as the most important reason that drove them to buy or rent such items. 48 per cent of them admitted that they felt guilty for doing so.

The minority respondents said they did not support the items, due mainly to poor quality and concerns about legal issues.
