Anybody can recommend me some sites to look after? I've done quite alot of mails/phone calls, but there is almost 95% non feedback or return reaction from Thailand, or companies that are based their, this get's me really..... khunjake Posted August 15, 2009 Share Posted August 15, 2009 Unless you have some very specialized skills that an ordinary Thai just doesn't have, then you will continue to have a very difficult time in finding employment. Most farangs in my circle that are employed have advanced degrees, valuable work experience and are employed by multi-national companies (not-Thai!) Other is to work offshore, opening for all technical skills etc, then spend your leave in Thailand. OK let me enlighten you a little in addtion to the comments by other posters. 1. Engineering jobs, whether in Thailand or other countries are usually aquired on a word of mouth basis, "somebody knows somebody", generally by the time they hit a "bodyshop" the job is already filled. 2. In Thailand, Expat jobs are no different, it more to do with who you know as opposed to what you know 3. Somebody mentioned getting into an MNC while based in Thailand, I am not going to say its impossible, but highly unlikely, most expats working for MNC's in Thailand have been working for that particular MNC and have been transferred to Thailand for a defined period of time.. 4. Thailand has been hit to certain degree by the worldwide ecomomic downturn and in fact a number of long term farangs working in thailand have been laid off across the industry. 5. With reference to working offshore...dont even think about offshore Thailand, you have no chance. If want a career in the offshore international game, you need the qualifications and the experience before venturing offshore, again more of case of who you know as opposed to what you know. The problem is I can do almost everything, this is mainly learned from my dad, but that doesn't count in the real world, they will look at the piece of paper and experience, what counts to get the job. For far as the paperwork, i've done mechanical engineering ( 4 year, mbo ) and bike engineer ( 2 year, mbo ). ( mbo, about bachelor? ) I've got alot of great job oppertunities in here, but they won't bring me to Asia, nor Thailand, where everything is almost master nor university degree needed. I've worked with ( as far I can remember ): - Stork, Industrial Service BV, Veghel - Smith Transformers BV, Nijmegen - Electrabel Suez, CG13, Nijmegen ( Powerplant ) - Diverse bike shops, car shops - MHB Metal window frames, Herveld - Corus Steel Piping ( Tubes ) BV, Zwijndrecht - Mars ( Masterfoods ) BV, Veghel - Many more places... It was not so hard to get the jobs, but it took some time to proof myself. Smith has been the last company, still work there. But they can't transfer me to Thailand, because their is no need ( not yet ) for big power transformers their. Well, it's just a pain in the ass right now, and I'm only 23, which makes it more hard. GF is in Thailand, but has no idea what I can do . And they longer have to stay apart... well you know . But I can't go the blind route again, can't risk anything. Datsun, Dont mean to offend you, but have absolutely nothing in your background which would interest an employer in Thailand, so wouldnt even waste your time contacting bodyshops in Thailand. The way I see it, to have any prospect of living in Thailand, you would need to start a business of your own or as somebody else has suggested...Teach English... ..think you best bet is bring the GF to Holland.. She does love me, but family ( parents ) influence was to great to bring her to NL ( and other factors ), let stand alone some conflict with my parents happened. When she went back to Thailand, she did the Exam that was necessary to come here permanently, but then when arriving at parents, their influence part came... Now I'm the one that's into the shit, knees deep. And I really love my GF, and not wanting to give up. Yeah, life is a pain. I believe it's like AlexLah called it: it's the hope that kills you, the pain is easy. I'm allready 5 months without my GF now. Men has to set a point in life, wether he wants his career to go first or his own family. For me that's family. Your MBO schooling doesnt mean much anywhere (for sure no bachelors degree), not even here in Holland. It would surprise me if you earn enough at your age to be able to get your gf to Holland altogether (net income including vacation money +€ 1650,- a month). With your abilities you can maybe earn an average THAI salary. You dont want that! How did you get yourself in a hopeless situation like this? Stop dreaming and manage your own life first. If her and your parents are that big an influence on you two living together, i assume you just are not yet mature enough to handle your own life. haverkamp Posted March 12, 2010 Share Posted March 12, 2010 MBO is equivalent to pro wo sho in Thailand and that is something where the high school drop-outs go after Mathayom 3 level, this is for sure not enough to get a job outside of Holland, as the Thai law is very strict about professionals aplying for a work permit.
