Lost Passport

Featured Replies

Bad luck seemed to follow me on this one. While in BKK to get my income verification from the American Embassy i lost my passport in a taxi. I spent 3 days in BKK trying to retrieve it and finally gave up. I got my income statement tied to the lost passport and I also have copies of my O-A visa ( which expired Feb 6, 2009) and extension of stay stamp until 28 Aug 2009 from having left the country during the visa's validity. I applied for a new passport 3 days after losing it and was told I had to wait the customary 2 weeks for the new one. If I am lucky, the new passport should be ready by 25 Aug 2009, 3 days before my extension of stay is up. This is very tight. I live in NongKhai and must return to BKK when the passport is ready and travel back here to immigration to hopefully get an extension of stay for another year. My visa was for retirement. I contacted the police in BKK and have a paper from them. I understand there is another form for Thai immigration for lost passports. At immigration I want to apply for an extension of stay based on retirement, multiple entry visa, regular 3 month address check in, I have tried to cover all bases. I was told I may also need to pay an overstay , if I don't get to immigration before the 28th . I am doing this right? Is there anything I need to know I have omitted?

You have a police report documenting your lost passport and have applied for a new one from the US Embassy. With new passport in hand go to immigration and get your extension of stay valid until 28 Aug 2009 transferred into the new passport, along with a replacement Departure Card. Your original visa has expired and will not be entered into the new passport. You then pay any overstay fine and apply for another 1 year extension of stay based on retirement. You cannot get another (new) visa from immigration, that would require a trip to a Thai consulate outside the country. That should cover it, provided immigration cooperates. Note: Should you choose to travel outside Thailand you will need to get a re-entry permit to protect your new extension of stay.

thanks, this seems to support what I thought and plan to do.

Don't forget the letter requesting that immigration transfer your visa (extension of stay) that the US Embassy will give you along with the new passport. You will also need to provide your last arrival information, flight and date, for immigration to locate your Arrival Card.

Then back to the embassy for a new income verification.

I'll get that when I pick up the passport. My old one is invalid based on stolen passport. Forgot about transfer of extension of stay transfer. Thanks everyone.
