During my 30 year old Thai girlfriend's visit to the UK over xmas some of her hair was falling out. It did anyway when we lived in BKK, but it seemed to increase when she was here. She's got plenty to spare, but I think she got a bit worried by it. She hadn't changed her diet much as she bought loads of veg with her and cooked Thai most days.

Any thoughts on why?

I'm afraid your Q may cause land-slide like flow of all sorts of "smart" and twity comments !

why didn't you simply take her to a doctor specialist there ?

I can't say I know the reason or remedy. it might be cause of climate/ tempreture difference.

one thing though I may add: my wife is also Thai, and also has her hairs falling out. although can't say - with same speed / rapidity and in same quantities as yours has. same I saw with my ex-g/f , also Thai. although both of them have plenty to spare... and this happened /-s to her even while here in Thailand. so, may be it is not necessarily coz yours in UK now ! :o although - who knows?

If this is her first trip out of Kingdom, then I would guess it's a nervous reaction. My Thai wife went through the same thing on our first couple of trips abroad. Everything returned to normal after we got back.

all the thai workers in israel have the same problem; i think its a combination of hard water or different water than in thailand, diet, stress, ... they also said that their arms got hairier here (maybe hormones in food, though thailand is big on chemicals etc, most of their eatable chickens seem to run aroun loose eating 'natural stuff' . the shampoos are different, also, most of these guys here were used to luke warm showers, suddenly they shower w/boiler hot water so dry dry skin etc and dandruff.... and hair falling out...maybe dryer air? different amounts of sunlight (topic vs. non tropic days?)

Could be hormonal - happens a lot to women that have recently given birth.

STRESS is the key to her hair loss as best as I can decern. It's a new environment and getting used to everyone around her, common very common.
