UAE worries Thaksin's use of Dubai as political base

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) voiced concerns Tuesday that fugitive PM Thaksin Shinawatra used Dubai as base to speak to his supporters before they submitted a petition to seek royal pardon for him on Monday, said Foreign Ministry's vide minister Panich Vikitsreth.

His video link clearly showed that he spoke from Dubai of UAE despite the fact that Thaksin was earlier warned that he should not use the country as a political base to criticise Thailand and the government, Panich said.

"Earlier UAE government had talked to Khun Thaksin and warned him about the matter. UAE also sent a document concerning the meeting with Thaksin to the Thai government," he said.

Therefore, what is important now is that the UAE government has to take action on the matter so that it would not affect on the mutual relationship.

"We already contacted UAE government on Monday and it promised us that such incident would not happen again. We will wait and see," he said.

Some countries that Thaksin had visited and used them as political base to attack Thailand have expressed concerns and worries to the Thai government. They claimed that they had requested Thaksin not to do so but failed.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm missing something? Where is the official comment from the UAE government spokesperson? Where is the tangible evidence that the UAE do not want Thaksin to conduct any form of political or business practices from Dubai? Where is the explanation from the Thai government that the non-extradition of an international arms dealer to face charges of assisting in the promotion of international terrorism is acceptable, but expect reciprocal co-operation from foreign governments in bringing 'to justice' a politician whose only (recorded) offense appears to have been as a legally required signatory to his wife's documented bid at a supervised auction for some land. Get real folks.
