I have a laptop with Vista and recently updated Explorer 8; E8 slowed it down to worse than dial-up speeds - I don't know why, not a tech person, at a friend's suggestion I uninstalled E8 and installed Mozilla Firefox 3.5.2 which has fixed the problem for me.

Again i have no explanation - many people have said i should have gone with XP rather than Vista but it was all preiinstalled (Dell); it got slower and slower with each Microsoft 'essential update'.

Maybe someone can advise - but as I say, all ok now.

last try - do you have a system restore point from a day where everything was running like a charm?

Try to restore it to that day an check whether its an improvement or not. (Take a snapshot from the current environment before you go back in time).

This issue can be caused by many reasons and therefore its rather hard to determine what actually has happened. Its a good idea to have it checked by a technician.

/edit: type error
