Trojan Detected

Featured Replies

My AVG Resident Shield has started picking up various trojan horses concerned with WINDOWS/system32/scvhost.exe

The latest to come up were these two,

C:WINDOWS\system32\autorun.ini Virus identified Worm/AutoRun.F

C:\System Volume Information\_restore{7AACBD1F-AA2B-42F3-B9A7-DFOC62126EE8}\RP205\AOO45156.dll Trojan horse Generic_c.AZFK

I googled the trojan and got the following advice:

""There are several ways to disable system restore but the easiest is to go to Control Panel, System, System Restore tab and tick the box to "Turn off system restore on all drives", click Apply, click OK and reboot. Follow the same steps when you log back on to re-enable system restore by removing the tickmark. Afterwards run a new scan.""

Haven't tried it yet, should I?

and two questions, Where am I getting these infections from how do I prevent them?

thanks in advance

AFAIK disable/reboot/enable system restore will delete all previous restore points.

Personally I would say good-bye to AVG and switch either to Avast or Avira (both have excellent free versions).

In case you want payware - go for NOD32

Additionally I would go for another firewall a very strong one even if you are behind a router - My best advise: Online Armor or Outpost. If you need extra malware protection - you can run Winpatrol.

They all play well together.

Boot into safe mode (F5 or F8 while Windows is loading) then rescan. If it doesn't work post again and we'll get more complicated.

And yes, get rid of that pig AVG.
