Hey

I am a bit confused by diferent reports

I left Thailand last December taking with me personnal effects (including an expensive watch -15 years old - and some jewelry (rings, chains, pendants..)

It is obvious that it is not new

I plan to come back for a while bringing along these items plus another wach I bought two months ago (expensive too)

According to the customs egulations I should declare any items for a combined value of 80.000 + Baht and by reading some posts on this site they seem to be quite strict

The value of the old watch is well above 10.000 $ where the new one is around 8.000 $

Well there are also the other items I have worn for many years

I called the customs deparment (bangkok) some days ago.

I was told that upon arival, what I was wearing was not to be declared.

The same goes for obviously worn items

Therefore go through the green channel

What should I do ? (No I want to take them along)

Wear the new watch with some jewelry and keep the rest in my suitcase?

Declare the whole thing? although I m the only one to wear them? etc....

Does this apply only to new item?

Sorry about this trivial question (I am sure that some of you have more important matters to deal with but....)

By he way I have sthe receipts or at least the copies

Thanks for the help

Don't put anything valuable in your suitcase!

Wear the watches or at least put one in your hand luggage.

The chances of being searched are very very small.

If you dress respectably and walk confidently nobody will stop you.

If by any chance you are asked then you can tell them the watches

are copies you bought in Patpong the last time you were there!

I bought a copywatch (digital readout) in Patpong 5 years ago.

Best watch I ever bought!

Still running precisely on time too!

I guess the best is to wear them

The only thing is that , now, they are scanning your hand lugage as well when you hae passed the channel before going through the exit gate

At least that was compusory a year or so ago

Is it still on?

Thanks

I don't agree.

First, I think a lot depends on what your luggage looks like. For example, I always walked right through, as you indicate. But the year I had a somewhat expensive and obviously full camera bag (though not what anyone would consider professional equipment) plus a laptop computer, I was stopped and thoroughly searched, though not charged for anything, even though I have two digital SLR cameras.

Second, I would not lie to the agent about anything.
