Converting Fat To Ntfs

Recommended Posts

I just bought a new laptop(Dell) and am trying to download postgresql.

It says I need to convert my computer from FAT to NTFS.

I've gone to the Command Prompt and typed - CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS

but

it now says, "ACCESS DENIED AS YOU DO NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT PRIVILIGES. YOU HAVE TO INVOKE THIS UTILITY RUNNING IN ELEVATED MODE"

Does any know how I get around this?

Do you run Vista?

If yes -

Go to the "Run" command shortcut, right click it and select "run as Administrator".

Yes Vista but it's all new to me - bought it today.

When I go to start- run and right click nothing happens

If you click on START ----> Command Prompt ---->right click and you will view "run as" a dialog will open.

Thats how it works in XP but trust Vista is not different in that... but I must admit I am not the Vista guru :)

Try it if it works otherwise repost.

In Wondows 7 it is the program that you right click on to select administrator. You type search "command prompt" and up comes the program link and you right click on that before running it. Not sure how much different Vista is.

You can easily do from the control panel with disk management without using command prompts. Search format hard drive and expect there will be a direct link (on Win 7 there is also a link to program but that is not needed).

But you were talking about your "C" drive and expect that is where the program is trying to install itself. In any case if you have the option to select where to install it should solve the problem to install to drive D.
