Tourist Visa Question (about Duration)

Featured Replies

Hi, and thanks in advance for anyone that can assist me.

Me and my GF are planning a trip to Thailand in January. Our goal would be to stick around thailand and surrounding countries for 4-6 months. Most our time though would be spent in Thailand.

Ive read a little bit around, and it says you can only get a Thai Visa for 60 (maybe 90 days) days, and then extend it 30 days?

How do I go around hanging around thailand for the bulk of my time? Or if I dont go to other countries as we have planned is it possible to stay in thailand for 4-6 months?

Thanks.

Oh, BTW were Canadians

Just get a year visa multi entry. That way you are coverd

or a double entry tourist visa = 6 months with two extensions.

A 2 entry tourist visa will do it. Just use the 2nd entry when you make one of your side trips to another country or just cross the border and return.

If you decide to make more than one side trip get a re-entry permit (1000 baht) at immigration. This would keep your current entry valid and would be good up to the permit to stay that you got from that entry.

Ignore the post about getting a multiple entry visa because that would be near impossible to get in Canada unless you are over 50.

If you plan travel in the area you can obtain another tourist visa in most countries within 24 hours so it should not be a big problem.

If you decide to make more than one side trip get a re-entry permit (1000 baht) at immigration. This would keep your current entry valid and would be good up to the permit to stay that you got from that entry.

Do you do this before or after leaving Thailand?

Thanks

Before you leave.

Cool thanks for the tips sounds like the double entry will work best since I plan to go to other countries after Thailand, then go back to Thailand and finish up or take off from there.

Ill check around online and figure out where to apply and stuff :). Trying to start organizing my trip better :D.

See this webpage from Ottawa embassy website. Near the bottom of page you will find a list of consulates in Canada. Vancouver is an official consulate the rest are honorary consulates and normally will give better service than the embassy or Vancouver.

Before you leave.

And you must purchase the re-entry permits at an immigration office as it can no longer be obtained from Suwarnabhumi airport.
