Mate & family looking to come to Thailand, seen flights with Qatar. Good connections and reasonable fares. Anyone got experience or reviews I can give them.? Have only been Emirates & Gulf myself, are they much the same?

Qatar is supposed to be one of the best

Very recommendable. I'm frequent flyer with them, regularly flying to europe via Doha. Good airplanes, very good food, stopover airport in Doha is spacy and with enough seating. Have never been delayed so far.

Very good experiences so far with Qatar.

Sometimes there can be a long connection in Doha so be careful when booking.

Be careful when booking connecting flights. Sometimes there is just 55 minutes connection time and the security queues are very long. Plus they still 'bus-in' a lot of arrivals.

Otherwise a very good airline, bettered only by Singapore or ANA.

ohh was looking at this airline myself. Good to know they are rated as their prices & the transfer times I have seen are very reasonable, 1.5-2hr stop overs. Just enough for a leg stretch & drink. :)

When I fly back to Europe, I only ever use Qatar, the service is great. Ive used them at least twice a year for the past 4 years without any complaints.

I got a cheap flight with them in may £296 return from manchester but 13 hours

going out and 8.5 coming back waiting time, the flights are great but nothing much

at Doha airport to do.

I used Quatar Air five times in the past 18 months and found the services similar to Emirates, though, tickets were cheaper. Go for it; it's a good airline in my opinion.

All the best

Hi

Ive flown with Qatar numerous times, excellent aircraft, service, food, drinks etc:

Doha food and drink area poor, everything else including duty free excellent.

Stewardesses are from all over the world, so language isnt a problem. Better than emirates, good as malaysia, only one better is singapore airlines.

This week on Travelzoo.com they have a Qatar flight to Bangkok, 2 nights in 4 star hotel, then flight to Phuket with 8 nights in a great hotel, then flight back to UK with air asia all for £546 ish, including pick-ups from airport I beleive.

I live in Phuket and its costs me about £460 flight only. Excellent value :):D

I found that, travelling with most Middle East airlines, the journey TO the hub is far better than the journey FROM it, where the planes seemed grubbier, and the service both on the ground and in the air was inferior to what was experienced on the 1st legs of the journies(sp?) i have made with them

Also, i tend to disagree with most peoples views about Qatar Airways. To me, they are a "cheap and cheerful" airline, undeserving of their 5 star rating Which,by defenition, puts them head and shoulders above most other airlines...i don't think so !!!!!

A great airline. I've flown to the UK with them several times, including this last summer. They are as good as Emirates in my opinion.

The food on the way to the UK this summer was superb, but only "good" on the way back. But, hey, what do you expect with food prepared in Manchester!

Never tried it yet but on the cards..

My brother and wife came out for a joli about 18 months ago and met up with us and were raving about it (from East Midlands airport)

Good connection times, comfy seats (economy)food, service, ents .... and booze....wot else does a body need

well done Sheikh Hamad and his sunshine boys ad girls..... :)

I didn't care for Qatar Airways at all! I was not impressed. The food was below average, the service just so-so and the plane was more cramped than any others I can ever remember. The worst part was the body order of the large number of passengers from Bangledesh, Pakistan, India and so forth. It was real bad!

I suggest Etihad Airways! The amenities and food on the plane were wonderful (no plastic cuttlery and great selection of movies). The staff were true professionals and very pleasant.

I'm a frequent flyer with Gulf Airways. It's pretty decent, but not as good as Etihad.

having flew to thailand with thai, eva and qatar i would say qatar were the best, most pleasent staff, best in-flight entertainment and most delicious food.

Having done both Etihad and Qatar in both economy and business I have to say the economy Etihad beats Qatar except on seats in A340/330 that are wider in Qatar

However food and service in Etihad is better

Business Food and service at Qatar wins but Etihad beats on the seats that are 180 degrees flatbed where Qatar is on angle.

Abu Dhabi as an airport is more pleasant and overall the connecting times at Abu Dhabi are better.

So if I have the choice, I will fly Etihad

I would have to say I agree with this, Etihad is slightly better on most counts. The Business Terminal in Doha is better than Abu Dhabi lounge however, though it is sometimes a bit crowded now, and I hate being bussed in in Doha (how many years is it going to take them to get the finger out! - pun intended)

I'm a more frequent flyer with Qatar, I've been Gold the last 2 years, but I've been impressed with Etihad each time, business or economy.

Emirates is not bad either, but a step down. Gulf just doesn't cut it at all.

If you can pick up a cheap business class seat, Sri Lankan airlines are quite good, just don't fly economy with them.

Now I'm flying Turkish airlines most of the time, which is ok, if you like yoghurt...

I also hated the busing in and out of the terminals and climbing stairs in Doha. The airport is small, dull and very crowded with next to nothing there to look at but bright lights. They are building a new airport and it should be nice, but I think they have a long way to go before it's finished. I met some Thais who were working on the artwork of the interior and they also had no idea when the new airport would be finished.

Abu Dhabi has a very cool looking airport (do an image search) and each time I've been there it's not been very crowded. The immigration people were very nice too!

Check the Qatar Airways timetable and avoid flights on the 777 because of the tight-fitting 3-3-3 config and huge entertainment boxes under the seats.

Best to go for the A330 aircraft.

THATS VERY INTERESTING IF THEY DO A FLIGHT FROM EAST MIDLANDS, I WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED, DO YOU KNOW HOW I CAN FIND THIS ?

very reasonable, but as an Emirates regular I wasnt that impressed with Qatar; the seats were on an incline, the planes were old, the airports lacking. The food however was brilliant.

All in all Emirates is nicer in my opinion, but costs more.

Personally Id say Emirates is the best in ME, then Qatar, closely followed by Ethiad. Gulf are budget!

and SKYTRAX say:

I have flew with qatar from edi-lon-doh-bangkok last year thought the planes where good.

The things i did not like was the long bus ride from the plane to the terminal at dohar. I have flew with gulf and emirates before and prefer dubai where they have a pub to chill. The smoking room at dohar is good you only have to stick you head in the door to get your fix, half way through my cig i was quite lite headed:lol:.

The in flight entertainment is so over rated, i just used it to listen to some music. A german man behind me went mad when they had to reset the IFE after 10 min (i dont knoe why) because he was watching some crap movie, then came the " call this a 5 fuc^%&^ star airline" routine:whistling:.

I am now looking to go direct fron london to bangkok.
