THAILIBAN
Dear Folks,This service comes highly recommended to us . 1.Where does it depart from ,is it the same old bus terminal ? 2.How far in advance can you book ? 3.Has anyone got their update schedule ? Best Wishes Wiley Coyote had you GOOGLEd by yourself, you would have all those informations already. (life can be so easy ) www.greenbusthailand.com the website is in Thai mostly, partly english only, but it is easy to navigate and find out about the schedule and prices (as long as you know how the Thai words for CHIANG RAI and CHIANG MAI look like). all informations about schedule, number of seats, and buying online.... and as you have thousands of forum posts already, you are certainly a long-time resident and therefore, can speak Thai and inquire at their hotline by yourself (or your Thai wife/GF can do for you)

Thighlander
Green bus is great. The 24 seater. It's better than first class on the airlines. It's about 300 THB, leaves from the same terminals as the others (the Arcade in CNX). I skimp on my guesthouse, and pay the extra for the VIP. It's a good trade off for budget travelers. The detainments at the checkpoints are briefer--there are a lot less people to check for one thing.
Oneman
The detainments at the checkpoints are briefer--there are a lot less people to check for one thing. Checkpoints??? What are these checkpoints, please. I've never made the trip to Chiangrai, so I don't know. Is it like airport security? Is it police looking for drugs or illegal aliens? Or are the checkpoints something else entirely? Thank you. -- Oneman Chiangmai
sceadugenga
Sure, there are two permanant checkpoints on the MaeSai road. And yes, they look for drugs and illegal immigrants. wileycoyote
Tks Scesdugenga. Agreed. The check-points are OK ,in the long run ,its for our safety as well. However it's sometimes odd when the move the plastic/plaster fake trooper torso at dusk ,to make you slow down anyway Cheers Wiley Coyote
whimsy
Could someone please confirm that this bus is now arriving and departing from the new bus station outside Chiang Rai muang?
Thighlander
That would be good to know. I got caught up in the two bus station confusion in Udon Thani. Made an already grueling trip from CNX to Vientiane even longer. Never assume.
Agenda
It leaves from New Bus Station in Chiang Rai, outside the city.
