Anyone had any problems getting a VOA with a one-way ticket?

I'm looking to fly in this weekend to Bangkok on a 1-way, and later on in the month pick up the double-entry tourist visa from Laos.

Thanks!

Your airline may not even let you board the plane on a single ticket without you having a visa. Check with them first.

I've flown with my airline many times before and have never had them check for the return, although this will be the first time flying on a 1-way.

I'm assuming you're a white guy, who holds a passport from an English speaking Western country (US, UK, Canada, Aus, etc.)? If so, then no need to worry.

They can see on the computer screen whether you are traveling on a one way, or not. One way tickets draw unwanted attention. Boarding a plane to Thailand (especially from a non-local country) with a one way ticket and no visa is a real problem.

You are heavy odds against being boarded by your airline without either an outbound airticket within 30 days of arrival, or a Thai visa.

Did look at the link that was posted by thaiphoon.

He gave you a link that answered your question.

But I suspect your question should of said visa exempt entry instead of VOA.

It it was for a VOA then you might not get a visa in Vientiane.

For either one you need a return or onward ticket. The best option is to buy a one way ticket to a nearby country. (KL on Air Asia comes to mind).

Ahh my mistake my mistake!

I meant Visa Exempt, not VOA.

I'm a US citizen with Hawaiian ancestory, don't think that'll be a problem.

I'll be flying out of the UAE, where I have a permanent residence visa, so I've never had any problems leaving my country or boarding an aircraft with no visa in my passport for Thailand.

If you all are serious though about HAVING to have a return ticket I might just have to buy that 1-way to KL or PP.

I recall a recent report from a member that had a problem getting on a flight from Dubai and it cost him 30,000 baht for a return ticket to his home country.

I am very serious about needing one. If the airline checks the IATA info available to them it will tell them that you need a return or onward ticket if you do not have a visa.

You could get a tourist visa before you leave the UAE. The embassy in Abu Dhabi or the consulate in Dubai would issue you a single entry for free.

An onward ticket is a requirement for visa exempt entry - although it is almost never checked on arrival it is often checked by airline. If you have any kind of visa you can fly on a one way ticket. If not allow time to buy a ticket at check-in if required or have an onward ticket.

That's the problem, I have to fly out this weekend, and the embassy told me it would take a week for the visa application because of Ramadan.

Looks like i'll be buying a cheap ticket out of LOS then, to be on the safe side...
