'sOK dude, you just had a Thai moment. Enjoy.

Toilets at a BTS station would be nice.

More seats at Swampy, especially when A-Hole backpackers are taking up four of them at a time for a little cat nap. :)

Availability of toilet paper in retaurant's toilets :)

If I remember reading the story correctly, it was the Siemens Company farang (my apologies to those who hate that term) designers of the BTS stations who intentionally built them without public toilets. As in other large city mass transit facilities worldwide, public toilets were seen as places prone to drug dealing, muggings, vandalism and other such unwanted activity so they decided to not build any.

mate, one way to avoid this rush hour plague is to get a stored value card.

How do you get it and how does it work? Do I buy it from the change booth people, and what do I say, as they speak no English and comms is always difficult?

You'd probably have to wait even longer with machines. Just imagine the huge lines of people trying to smooth out all their wrinkled 20 baht notes so that they will fit in the machine.

Upstairs by the Family Mart, lots of free seats and cans of booze at normal prices. You need to look harder!

Get it from the ticket office near the fare gates, just ask for a smart card they know what you mean.

IIRC there is a small deposit, load cash on the card and just tap at the gate to enter and exit, when it runs out load more cash.

Due to poor planning you need to get separate cards for the MRT and BTS (and yet another for tha airport line when it opens) :)

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

GARBAGE CANS!!!!!

I know they had a bomb in a garbage can a number of years ago... but for christ's sake, if someone wants to put a bomb somewhere again, the lack of garbage cans isn't going to stop them. It's no wonder Bangkok is so dirty... there's absolutely NOWHERE to throw your trash other than the street.

I'm hugely grateful for my 10 years in the merchant navy. The paramount thing that it taught me was that when I left home I mustn't expect things to remain the same. It saved me enormous amounts of heartache pissing and moaning about the fact that the rest of the world was different.

And if you live here (or plan on staying for more than a month) make sure you get the BTS SKY SmartPass and not the 30 day BTS ADULT SmartPass. The SKY pass is valid for 5 years. http://www.bts.co.th/en/smartpass2.asp

***Edit for extra info***

I almost forgot, if you are intimidated by the staff not speaking English, go to the Siam station (the one at Paragon) as they all speak English.

Or they could have ticket machines which accept notes...like the ones at the MRT.

Most speak English very well.
