Adsl Provided By Tot In Pattaya?

Have checked through the archives on this but found only two claims that conflicted.

One guy said he was having all sorts of problems and the other guy preached at him saying you had to lean on them to get things done which he apparently did, or so he said he did.

I have spoken with friends and one chap in the business who says there is and never was an ADSL service provided by TOT for people with a TOT line in Pattaya. The best they can offer is their new Quicknet or something not even worthy of comparison. Although they promoted ADSL on their website with speeds costs and all, it was all empty hype as they could not deliver so I am told and it never got up and running.

The guy on this board who claimed he had signed up with TOT after pushing them to get it done should have the answer unless he was spinning a yarn.

Simple question. Do TOT offer ADSL to people with a TOT line or not and have they ever successfully provided it?

Just curious about the reality of past and present, the present being of more interest of course.

I have a TOT line, but they tell me ADSL is full in my area. I went to tt@t, and they told me ADSL is available in my area, but there are no free lines available .......... iritating.

I've got a TOT line too - they told me "coming soon" early last year, and a few times after that they told me "no have"...

I went to the TT&T office; they told me there is a number available in my street, but the previous customer left a bill of 2800baht - which I would have to pay if I wanted to take over the number!!! :o

[plus whatever the normal connection charges would be]

I think the extra ฿2800 is worth paying, but a little cheeky of them.

Dave,

TT&T is a private company, paying a certain percentage of revenue to TOT, which is owned by the government.

A TT&T line is certainly not a TOT line. TT&T has their own exchanges, cables, offices, administration, etc...

The only thing TOT and TT&T share is that you have to pay the bills at the TOT office. (so TOT can keep track of TT&T's revenue and deduct their share at source)

Pretty much all of TT&T's exchanges in the center of town and Jomtien are upgraded to support ADSL, whereas the TOT exchanges supporting ADSL are few and far between!

The problem with TOT is the government work attitude at the office. It's so damned hard to get anything checked or applied for (except paying bills of course :o )

Just finding out ADSL is available is a big problem already!

Drop into the TT&T office and you have your answers in a couple of minutes!!!

So to the original poster, TOT has adsl available in a few locations, but good luck to anybody trying to find out if their line is one of them...

Everybody in need of ADSL tries to go the TT&T way because of ease of communicating with their staff...

Thanks Monty and to everyone else who took the trouble to respond.

Have been out and about today and can definitely confirm that you need a TT&T line, period. The staff at Carrefour made that very clear just by a glance at my phone number.

I was also put straight at TOT on Pattaya Klang by the Manager today who told me that nobody has ADSL in Pattaya through a TOT line. In Bangkok yes, but not in Pattaya.

Still scratching my head as to why some people reckon they have the facility through a TOT line after those very clear words. Whilst I would expect the Manager to lie, it makes no sense in this case. :o

Tried the TT & T new phone line route and was told 'no have now, too many people want'.

Just as well that ADSL is only a 'nice to have' but not essential for me. :D

Thanks anyway guys. :D

Scandy,

Very strange as I know of two people who have the True package on a TOT line.

True quotes 1100 Baht/month for their 256/128 package excluding the adsl carrier, meaning TOT will bill you seperately for the use of their adsl network.

This is different from the TT&T network, where TT&T has contracts with the ISP's resulting in a single bill to be paid monthly. The ISP (e.g. Loxinfo, Ji-net,...) will pay TT&T for the use of their adsl network...

That's exactly what I mean with "government work attitude". If you tell the potential customer "no have" means the customer goes away and so does the extra work involved with signing up an adsl customer. They are government employees who are in no way interested in how well the "company" is doing. Their job is secure until retirement anyway!

Governments don't go broke like a bad run private company does...

Drop into the new TRUE sales office at the TukCom shopping mall on south Pattaya road(2nd floor I think). They have a list of the TOT phone numbers supporting adsl, and the area's of coverage.

This appeared in the Bangkok Post yesterday:

ADC aims for 'triple play' of video, phone and broadband Internet

TONY WALTHAM

Hannover, Germany _ A new high-speed DSL broadband service is being launched in Bangkok and the major provinces next week by Advanced Datanetwork Communications (ADC) that will also provide video on demand services with over 1,000 hours of content, games and free TV channels.

ADC, a member of the Shin Group, will provide 2Mbps of unlimited broadband within the country and a 1Mbps international link for just 650 baht a month, including the free television, according to managing director Aphivan Ratnin Saipradist.

The equipment for this home entertainment network is provided by Siemens, after ADC signed a turnkey contract with the company to initially provide 200,000 broadband lines over a three-year period. The end-user equipment includes a Siemens set-top box, DSL modem and splitter.

ADC will introduce the service on March 24 in what Ms Aphivan calls a "triple play" by providing existing telephone connectivity, broadband Internet access from a PC and local television channels or video on demand at the same time.

Ms Aphivan said that ADC's investment over two years would be some 500 million baht and that its role was that of an integrator, with the Internet service provision being under CS Loxinfo's licence.

This service will be available to residents of Bangkok and 24 major provinces in all parts of the country who have Telephone Organisation of Thailand lines and ADC expects to sign up between 60,000 and 80,000 subscribers in the first year.

Hmmm, could it be too good to be 'true'? :o:D

I too noticed that yesterday, hopefully it will bring down prices of the others, wonder if they will be in Pattaya.

Me too, hence my half-hearted post.

I believe Thailand has 76 provinces.

Surely Chonburi is one of the 24 'major' provinces?

What struck me was that if they are launching this on the 24th of March, i.e. next week, then someone should tell their Marketing Division. :o

If this is kosher then those annoying dog upsetters who post crap in your mailbox or fence would have been out in force ages ago.

Oh how I would love to have my sceptism proved unwarranted... :D
