Lite Beer
You will find that an Honorary Consulate such as Perth is a lot more friendly and helpful than an Embassy.

cairnsgirl
Our friends use Brisbane and always say their fantastic. We've used Melbourne twice now and never a problem. First time we went in physically to drop off and the next day pick up, the second time we sent it from Cairns, then picked up on the way through to Thailand. queanbeyan
I have heard the the Brisbane based consulate is good for a long term visa. Also the Canberra embassy will be difficult to deal with - there are many events happening this month - cultural food fair, guest speaker promoting thailand as an investment destination and the biggest of them all - the ambassador's stint in canberra is coming to an end - he returns to bangkok at the end of September - no idea on his replacement yet - but as you may imagine the staff will be busy with briefings and setting up the month's events. david96
The main reason that this post is that if you follow the links one can get the criteria for visa applications and they can be downloaded in PDF format. They also give the addresses of all the consulates in Australia. Also other information of interest. Australian citizens and permanent residents apply to the consulate in the state in which they normally reside. All other applicants would normally apply to the consulate in the state that they are currently in. If you apply by registered post allow 5 working days minimum for a tourist visa. One consulate is not "more friendly" to quote the term than another. However, one might find it easier to obtain some visas if you are an Australian citizen or you have permanent resident status. It would pay to read the visa requirements and compare these with the criteria in Singapore, Penang, and other SEA countries. To travel to Australia is an expensive option, Perth being the nearest consulate in Australia to Thailand. It is always easier to obtain visas in your own home country. It pays to telephone the consulate first and get their latest requirements especially if you are intending to apply for any visa other than a tourist one. pgangell
Only problem is that for some visas you have to go to either Sydney or Camberra - e.g. Retirement visa
ubonjoe
Only problem is that for some visas you have to go to either Sydney or Camberra - e.g. Retirement visa I think you mean a non immigrant OA visa. Calling it a retirement visa may confuse some people who would think that you mean a regular non-o visa. It might be a good idea to check with Perth because I recall a report about them doing an OA. david96
I obtained a Non-O (Spouse Visa) 1x90 day with the following. Photocopy of valid spouse Thai passport. Photocopy of Thai marriage certificate. Photocopy of 1 page of my latest Australian bank statement. Mailed to RT Consulate Brisbane by registered mail, total time 5 days. With reference to the Long Stay Non-immigrant Visa Code O-A 5. Having the nationality or the residence in the country where his/her application is submitted. This would mean that an applicant would be have to be an Australian citizen or be a permanent resident (or hold a suitable visa that would comply). An Australian vistors visa or ETA would not comply with this requirement.
