Hello,

I want to go to China around October 4th (mid-term break) with my Thai girlfriend.

I am a Swedish citizen and we are both University students.

Do you need any travel insurance? Is it difficult for Thais to get Chinese visa?

Travel Insurance is entirely up to you, And I would suggest China visas for Thai Nationals are not a problem, I travel between Kunming and BKK regularly and the flights are full of Thai tourists.

I would however warn you of your proposed date of travel. From the 1st - 8th October, China closes down for their National Day celebrations.

And this year the celebration will be huge as it is the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic. Double check with your travel agent, or do some internet searching relating to traveling in China during peak periods.

I have a French friend who has just done this with Thai gf.Latter obtained visa for herself at Chinese Embassy in Bangkok, no problem at all and process is easy if a bit of a production line.
