Residence Certificate For Getting A Driver's License

Featured Replies

Yes, I have searched the forum and what a mix of information and advice.

I am putting this is the Bangkok forum because I want to know what people in Bangkok do...not upcountry.

From the Immigration Office's site I got the correct application form and filled it out.

What I could not find on the site was what other documentation I need.

I am on a 1 year extension based on retirement (some would say a retirement visa).

I have my original 1 year lease agreement, signed by the apartment company and me.

Of course, I also have my passport and visa and extension.

Do I need to take something else with me to the Immigration Office other than the application form and the original lease agreement?

Is there a specific room to which I need to go to at Immigration in Bangkok for this purpose?

Right now I don't need to know about the driver's license procedure, so let's not confuse things.

Thanks so much!

I understand you don't have a Thai driver's licence yet, so this is about application not renewal. It's been a while, but this is what I needed at the time:

Passport with non-imm visa (the visa extension based on retirement will do) and a photocopy

1" Photograph (you can make it there)

Valid international driver's licence from your home country

Residence certificate (this is not a PR but a letter from your embassy certifying that you live at this address)

A lease contract wouldn't in lieu of the residency certificate work at the time, as it is not an official document.

You don't need to go to Immigration, just take all these docs to the DMV at Chatuchak.

I forgot to mention the doctor's certificate:

Suggest you watch that thread. They also say you need the residency letter from immigration, not embassy. So things seem to have changed in the meantime.

The US Embassy has a form specifically for address verification to get a thai driver's license. The cost of this letter is 1020baht

Also Immigrations at Suan Plu, (next month to be Changwattana) on the second floor room 206 (phone number; 02-285-5162) which does the verification of address letters for 100 baht and it's EMS'd to you about a week later.

If I am not mistaken most police stations will do an address verification letter as well.
