My Best Option For New Visa/extension

Featured Replies

Ok, so I got married yesterday. :) YAY!

Anyway, Im on a Non O, and I am in the last 3 months having done a border-run just before it expired. In 1 month, I need to sort out my visa situation.

I do not have the 400k in a thai account (Or any other account for that matter).

My plan was to go to Vientianne for a Tourist Visa x2, and buy myself 6 months that way. Then during that time, I can filter my business cash flow through my personal UK bank account, and use those bank statements to gain the letter from the British consulate for an extension based on marriage.

I have a few questions.....

Can I extend currently based on marriage for 60 days at the immigration office paying 1900thb(For the purpose of buying another couple of months, prior to going to Laos)? And does this come with any restrictions e.g. I must then extend showing funds at the end of that period or else.....

Once I have an income letter, must I extend off a Non Imm visa, or can I convert the tourist one somehow?

If the answer to the above is yes, you need a Non Imm to extend from - where must I go to obtain this? Can I get a single entry based on marriage in Laos?

I'm based in Chiang Mai if that bears any relevance, and Im British.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Phil

You can get a one off 60 day extension from Immigration to visit your Wife. 1,900 Baht.

You can change a Tourist Visa to a Non O Visa but it would need a trip to Bangkok to do it.

Easier to obtain a single Non Imm O Visa from Vientienne.

You can always get a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa from KL if you wanted. This would give up to 15 months but would need border runs every 90 days.

Perfect. That buys me a bit of time before my trip to Laos. Thats great. How straightforward is the extension?

Also, what is the procedure for changing tourist to Non O in Bangkok. My wife is from Bangkok, so a trip there is no great hardship. Can I extend for the full year at the same time in Bangkok if I go with all the docs?

Thanks

Phil

Oh, a single Non Imm O - There is no mention of the single Non Imm O in Vientianne in the Latest Reports thread? Hmmm, so would I be best to:-

Extend for 60 days at immigration

Get Single Non Imm O in Vientianne (What is required - income letter? or just Marriage cert/papers)

Use my 90 days for the Non Imm O to get a history of income through my account

Extend for a year based on marriage/income.

Continue thus till I die....

From Immigration Website. http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en/ba...p?page=service# "Change Visa"

You can change to a Non Imm O Visa if you have at least 21 days remaining on your current stay. It has to part of the procedure for extending for a year. 2,000 Baht. Usually you would have to wait 2 months before applying for the 12 month extension. Sometimes they will do it one go.

The 60 day extension is straightforward. Marriage certificate, Wife's ID Card and House registration book. Passport size photo.

Probably easier to do that and then get a Non Imm O from Vientienne. Marriage Certificate. Wife's ID Card and house book.

You can not extend in Bangkok if you live in Chiang Mai. Much better to use the non immigrant O visa as it would cost 2,000 baht extra to convert a tourist visa anyhow. For the non immigrant visa marriage certificate/copy wife ID card and perhaps her home register with short letter from her asking visa to be issued as you live together.

Thanks for the useful information.

I just want to make sure. I have done a search, but cannot find confirmation.

Is it certain that providing the right documents (No proof of income at first), I can get a SINGLE Non O based on Marriage in Vientianne?

What is the cost of a single Non O in Vientianne?

Thanks

Phil

Nothing in life is certain, except that it will most likely end.

Most places will issue a single entry non immigrant O visa with the documents listed and without a financial test (although any non immigrant visa requires 20k in cash if they want to ask).

Expect the cost is 2,000 baht but not sure of currency used.

Ok, thats great thanks.

If anyone has a link to a confirmed report of someone obtaining a Non O based on marriage in Vientianne, that would be all the better. I'm a worrier. :)

Thanks again for all the info.

Try to get a multiple entry non-0.

If you don't get, you'll get a single entry.

No problem to get the single entry non-o in Vientiane. It has a bit but I have gotten one there.

No reports because they are so easy to get at most nearby locations.

You will not get a multiple entry in Vientiane.
