Have you checked your system restore settings? Turn off system restore on all drives?
Yes I have I had a virus at the time I like to restore my system and I have been told

due to my anti virus program it my block to restore to that time but I did turn off the

system restore on all drives (as advised) and turned it on again but it will not let me restore

I can not change the month I like it to restore it just won't let me do it :)

When system restore is turned off, all the information needed to restore to earlier checkpoints is deleted. Unfortunately, you will not be able to use system restore to go back to a point before system restore was enabled again.

For the future, I strongly recommend that you take proper backups to a separate harddrive, and not rely on system restore. There are many circumstances where system restore cannot help you. The kind of backup I suggest is called an "image backup". It takes an exact copy of the harddisk in a compressed form. Two programs that can take an image backup are Acronis TrueImage and Norton Ghost.

I had similar thing happen last week except there was not even a choice for last good boot, took it to TukCom in Pattaya, Pattaya2U repair counter, told them not to erase my hard drive, 2 hours later it was up and running, nothing lost.

Charged me their normal B300 charge.

I agree, you can also use System RescueCD (www.sysresccd.org) is a Linux bootable CD to backup your system.

Description: SystemRescueCd is a Linux system rescue disk available as a bootable CD-ROM or USB stick for administrating or repairing your system and data after a crash. It aims to provide an easy way to carry out admin tasks on your computer, such as creating and editing the partitions of the hard disk. It comes with a lot of linux software such as system tools (parted, partimage, fstools, ...) and basic tools (editors, midnight commander, network tools). It requires no installation since you just have to boot on the CD-ROM. It can be used to perform admin tasks on both linux servers, linux desktops or windows boxes. The kernel supports most of the important file systems (ext2/ext3/ext4, reiserfs, reiser4, btrfs, xfs, jfs, vfat, ntfs, iso9660), as well as network filesystems (samba and nfs).

Windows restore is notorious for not working. Don't depend on it but use a 3rd party backup program (Acronis True Image is an excellent program for back up or cloning). I found that one solution is to install a 2nd hard drive and clone your c drive to it so if your c drive is corrupted or fails, simply open your computer and swap hard drives (remember to set the jumpers if necessary).
