September 10, 200916 yr This is one of the best guides out there, What you mostly want to look for these days is routeing and how well the unit preformes this. You can have a great display and great options, but if the unit doesn't know the best way to read a map and preform the option you have picked, then what good is it. This is ment by what streets it will pick to get from A to B with the options you have picked, No tollways, aviod traffic no U turns....
September 11, 200916 yr Author The nuvi 765T got a good write-up. $120 more than the 760. Hmmm. (Amazon) edit: The comments are worth reading, no BS (spin) from owners. Edited September 11, 200916 yr by GungaDin
September 11, 200916 yr Don't write off the older units that have the less sensitive satellite chip. Here is an interesting link posted by basjke; http://www.gpspassion.com/fr/articles.asp?id=259 I have an old 2610 Street Pilot that is an excellent unit. Waterproof and rugged. I also have a Nuvi 750. The older unit is able to be customized with many more functions that the newer Nuvi. The 2610 keeps the signal very well unless under overpasses and between high buildings. If I were going to use a GPS strictly in Bangkok, I'd choose the new chip, anywhere else, it doesn't really matter or cause any problems at all. According to the above link the old chip may even be better.
September 22, 200916 yr http://www.gpsmagazine.com/buyers_guide.phpAny other guides? Do you know whether a Garmin 765T (purchased in the USA) would work here in LOS if I installed a SE Asia/Thailand map into it? Would it then be operational in both countries?

Get a SE Asia/Thailand map on SD card and you should be good to go. The original map will remain in the internal memory and is not affected by the SD card. Select which map is in use through 'Map Info'.
