I am using for years MS Money and very happy with it. Willing to pay for it but how?? M$ has discontinued the product. Found it on amazon but they do not ship it to Thailand.

Anyone an idea where I could buy it? Preferred would be an official version but ANY version would do the trick for the time being.

If you have Money why do you want to buy it? I also used for eons but made the switch to Quicken this summer (not easy for some accounts but only took a couple of days to get everything working). Am still a novice with Quicken but in general it seems to be better. I believe they are building in advanced change features from Money for 2010 version. As on-line services will end for Money can not see staying with a dead horse.

That said did you check if they still have on the Microsoft Store for download? That is where I got it last year. It was a bear to get working as the very unsafe autoplay feature had to be turned on in Windows but they failed to tell anyone.

the problem I've got is....yes, I want to change to Quicken but in order to convert the files from Money to Quicken you have to tweak something with the reports. As my trial version has expired (not that I saw that coming... :) ) I cannot convert the files.

You may want to try gnucash. This is a free application that supports importing of MS Money, Quicken etc. I've not actually used the product myself but I have heard good things about it. It may be an easier upgrade and certainly cheaper than Quicken ...

You could always make a backup up of your MS Money files and see how the conversion to gnucash goes.

just tried gnucash. At first you have to export each account in MS Money into a qif file. Then import one by one into GC.

GC - as all those open source programs I saw before - is a bit chunkier than commercial software. The look and feel reminds me of good old consoles with amber screens. The report functions are just not as good and customizable...so not really what I am looking for.

Thanks anyways for pointing to this software, good having given it a try!

Will it work to get a trial version on another machine .. importing saved files .. then do the tweak?

just working on that one. Will report back...the conversion is not really done in a minute...

:) after going through all the steps for the initial reports you have to create in money, that fricking converter says MSVCR71.dll not found.

On duckware.com some helpful geek explained the problem in detail but left me completely helpless.. :D

okok.....downloaded that dll and put it in the same folder as the converter exe. converter opens. No time to celebrate yet, when pressing "import" another error pops up and says that some template.* is probably set to read only or not enough space.

The file is not read-only AND there is enough space on the HDD in question.

now THAT is tricky....you have to give the user (even though with admin rights!!) full control over that file before proceeding. :)

All the above set and done something is happening, data is created and Quicken opens. Where exactly the data (that was supposedly imported) ended up, no idea. all accounts are on zero balance.

Deleted the newly created files and tried to convert again, now I get an error message "Duplicate category name" and the converter crashes.

That's it. Back to MS Money.

heureka! Got one out of three Money files imported into Quicken. The result is....well..mixed up at best. None of the account balances are correct. In fact, they are way off the mark.

Had the same problems, played around with it for more than a week without ever getting anywhere.

Stick with MS Money!

ok...cleaned the registry manually yesterday off any traces hinting to MS Money.

Now the..errm....evaluation copy :) works. I'd be happy to pay money for it, but after a couple of e-mails back and forth with M$ support I gave up on it. If anyone from M $out there is reading this, you can come over to my office and pick up your money. I tried hard to pay for your product, but you rejected my payment so far.

I ran around with the Microsoft store a few months ago as they would not honor any of three credit cards under two names for payment. Believe they must have been blocking approval based on Thai IP but they never said that.

As for moving to Quicken believe I had to do it one account at a time using export and import rather than the conversion program (as too many transactions) - it messed up some of the transfer type transactions but not too bad and was able to restore everything for about 15 accounts in a couple of days. But with any luck a new process will be available later in the year to automate the conversion.

I am waiting now for Quicken 2010. As M$ steadfastly rerfuses my payment, I have no scruples using a pirated version for the time being.

The software is actually still available on amazon, but after going through the entire check-out process, an error comes up that they cannot ship this product to Thailand...duuhh :)
