Jet Airways

Hi All

I'm hoping someone can give me a bit of advice.

I'm about to book flights to Thailand at Christmas with Jet airways thru flight centre. Flight centre have informed me that they no longer have a commercial relationship with Jet and therefore cannot extend the Airline Failure Protection cover (AFP).

I've spoken with flight centre and they haven't been much help but have said should my flight be cancelled / delayed / whatever they are not liable to provide me with another flight. I've also spoken to Jet who tell me there is no problem and that my travel agent will organise an alternative flight should mine be cancelled. This is obviously a catch 22 type scenario as Flight centre have told me they are not liable for this.

Basically I'm just wondering if I can get this covered with travel insurance thus negating the need to get flight centre to organise another flight for me.

The only alternative is to travel with EVA which is a good £200 more but I would be covered.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated with this.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jim

I assume you are in LON.

Have you tried other agents in LON ?

I doubt the flights will be cancelled as Jet has resumed flights today after the pilot strike.....

Hi Keff

Yep I'm from London. I've tried a few others but unfortunately Flight centre are by far the cheapest.

I'm just a bit worried because if it does go pear shaped I'm gonna be stuck as I won't be able to afford another ticket.

I understand that they just had a pilot strike but that wasn't anything to do with financial difficulties thou was it? I'm just a bit worried because I don't want it to get to Christmas and find out my airline has gone down the pan. If it does go pear shaped I'm gonna be stuck as I won't be able to afford another ticket.

I guess I'm a bit of a worrier lol

And flying with EVA via Beijing is also a fair bit longer.

As the poster above suggested I'd try with some other agency/online flight specialist instead.

Hi terraPosse

Flying with EVA from LON isn't actually longer its quicker by at least 3 or 4 hours as its direct. Flying with Jet I have to change planes in Mumbai. LON-BKK with eva approx. 11hours with Jet about 15hrs.

I've tried other travel agents but unfortnately flight centre are the cheapest by a long way.

Thanks anyway.

Have a look at the prices on Qatar. I flew Jet once and after my experiance in Mumbai would never fly with any airline going by that airport.

In short as I went through the security metal scanner they stopped me and made me go to through the scanner at the other end of the hall. My belongings still went through that X-Ray.

When I got back my bag was there but minus the XBox-360 that was inside it. Also my coat had gone missing.

They said there was never anything in the bag and there was never a coat. Just then I saw my XBox pushed under the security guards desk. When I pointed it out the guard just picked it up and threw it at me. No explanation. I never got my coat back. It had my keys in my packet for both my condo and car in Thailand. Luckily my girlfriend let me into the condo but we had to get a locksmith to break into the car and make new keys.

All the staff in Mumbai was rude and arrogant. As I said, no matter how cheap the ticket is I would never go via there again.

Thanks Chris. Having flown with Jet a few times I've thankfully never experienced the above and therefore would have no problem travelling with them again. My main concern isn't the attitude of Mumbai's ground staff more the fact that I may not have an Airline / Airplane come December. Is there a travel insurance out there that will provide me with AFP? If so then I could get that and still book the cheap flights with flight centre.

Cheers

Hi Jimmy

The strike was due to a few pilots being terminated for setting up of a union.

Jet is expanding rapidly to the Gulf where it is making good inroads.

It definitely will not go under, as it is India's largest airline in terms of market value.

The newly refurbished terminal in Mumbai is also pretty adequate.

Hi Keff

Thanks for the update. I decided to play it safe and book with EVA. Direct flight and I get to add a few more frequent flier miles to the pot.

Thanks for everyones advice, much appreciated.

Cheers
