You would think that Apple would make the activation process for this type of feature automatic since it's so important. But NOOOO... Here's how you do it

1) Connect to a WiFi

2) Launch Safari Browser on your iPhone

3) Charge your iPhone

4) Turn iPhone screen off

The OS will then start downloading the anti-phishing database into your iPhone.

Note that this is only for those who has installed the new 3.1 OS. Visit my site at---link deleted--- and email me your iPhone questions.

Not completely accurate. The anti-phishing feature is included in 3.1, so I assume it is already active. What is being downloaded when you are charging and connected to wi-fi are updates to the anti-phishing database. You do not need to launch Safari. Safari is always running in the background. So if your phone is on charge and connected to wi-fi, the anti-phishing database will be updated. However, indeed Apple should have been clearer about what you need to do to make sure the database is kept up to date.

Where did you get your source hughden? I read an article that is based on a quote from an Apple company spokesperson, who tells exactly the same procedure as mentioned by the original poster. Do you represent Apple?

The anti-phishing feature is built in 3.1, but the database needs to be downloaded. Without the database the anti-phishing feature pretty much is useless. Users that didn't perform these additional steps were able to access phishing sites without any warning from Safari, thus rendering that feature useless. After I updated to 3.1, to my surprise, I was able to visit some of the phishing sites that I know without any warning from the browser.

Even though Safari does run in the background of the iPhone, it does not automatically download the anti-phishing database for you. After I followed these steps, the anti-phishing warnings kicked in when I revisited those phishing sites.

I'm sure you all know some phishing sites.. Give it a try without going through these steps and see...
